New Phone: Strategy of Clean Slate?

March 26, 2021

I am a firm believer in the strategy of the clean slate, as Gretchen Rubin has described it.

I am self-aware enough to know that I am particularly susceptible to this phenomenon. This is why the following things tend to have a significant effect on my mood and psyche:

✅ a new month (or, as you all have noticed, the end of many months!)

✅ a new planner (which might explain why I tend to switch every few months, especially in more stressful phases of life)

✅ a new school year

✅ a new setting

ANYWAY. I’m hoping that “new phone” qualifies (though it’s also about to be a new quintile/quarter + a new month). Especially with one focus being . . . . time spent on my phone!

(ALSO: every time I think of my new phone, these lyrics roll through my head:

Vintage tee, brand new phone
High heels on cobblestones
When you are young, they assume you know nothing
)

ALSO ALSO, it’s Annabel’s Mommy Day! Basically she gets me all day and has full control over our activities (within reason, we will not be driving to Disney World).

Josh and I are both OFF this weekend and will get to see some family for Passover. Obviously COVID-19 is still here but to some extent we’re at the point of just . . . living with it. (The vaccine very much helps and I am excited at how more and more people I know are now protected!)

    So glad you will be able to see family for Passover! We are celebrating Easter with my MIL as she’s fully vaccinated! It will be nice to celebrate with family for the first time since Christmas of 2019!

    Enjoy your day with Annabel. I hope to do these with my son once more things open up around here, so maybe this summer or fall?

    My newish phone (still under warranty) just had to be replaced yesterday so I did the clean slate thing with my apps. I downloaded only the ones I think I’ll use regularly and left the rest in the cloud. I always love a new planner, a new notebook, and a new month for the same reasons as you mentioned.

    Hope your new phone gives you the clean slate to control your phone time.
