fall style inspiration

August 28, 2014

I mentioned previously that I am in great need want of a wardrobe overhaul.  When I’ve been in this situation in the past, I’ve bought a bunch of things at once (often on sale).  This often feels good in the moment but has not led over time to a particularly functional closet.  I have noticed over the years that the pieces that have actually been worth it have been the things that I chose because I was really attached to them in the store or catalog, not just to fulfill some perceived ‘need’.

So, I’ve decided to take it slower this time around.  Though I still plan on donating/consigning of a lot of older clothing, I don’t think I’m going to get a whole bunch of things at once.  In addition to the reasoning above, I still don’t feel entirely out of the postpartum body period (patience, I know!).  But I do feel ready to start rebuilding anew.

I’m thinking maybe I’ll aim to get one work/nicer outfit and one more casual outfit per month for a few months.  I’ve never decided on a specific clothing ‘allowance’ for myself before, but that doesn’t seem too over the top and would allow me to have several new outfits in circulation by the end of the season.

Currently drooling over the following inspirations from the Boden catalog this morning:

(Nothing affiliate about these pix; I just thought there were a lot of cute looks in the fall catalog!)

This is a great approach. A lot of my on-sale stuff, or things I picked up at an outlet mall while bored-shopping, just sit in the closet.

I’ve committed to shopping my closet this fall and then keeping track of items I need that are classics but higher end. I want less clothes overall. I love the Daily Connoisseur’s capsule wardrobe. That is my ideal.

I love Boden! I have been eyeing that dress with the birds.
