Lisa posted her 2024 Survey results yesterday and I am blatantly copying her format! Thank you, Lisa! Here we go . . .
1) What did you do in 2024 that you’ve never done before? Attended concerts with my kids, including Taylor Swift with A and Olivia Rodrigo with the entire family.
2) Did anyone close to you give birth? No one super close, but a lovely work colleague (peds nephrologist) had her second baby a few weeks ago!
3) Did anyone close to you die? Thankfully, no. I feel lucky to be able to say this about 2024.
4) What places did you visit?
- Philadelphia (twice)
- Naples, FL (twice)
- Big Sky, Montana (twice!!)
- Seattle + coastal Washington
- Traverse City, Michigan
- Jacksonville, FL
- Keys (not that far, but still feels like another place!)
5) What would you like to have in 2025 that you didn’t have in 2024? A bit more margin in my days. 2024 was amazing in many ways, but looking back it felt just a bit too jam-packed.
6) What dates from 2024 will be etched in your memory forever? 5/25/24 felt pretty special – Josh and I ran Bayshore Marathon that day, and both achieved BQ times! 10/20/24 was the TS concert; that date is seared into my brain, too.
7) What was your biggest achievement this year? Writing a successful book proposal. And finishing our estate planning!
8) What was your biggest failure? I succumbed to really unhealthy distraction tactics during stressful times. (Smaller failures: strength training; decluttering.)
9) Did you suffer from illness or injury? Yes, though it was nothing life threatening. (It was very un-fun, though, and mentally challenging.) I also have multiple loved ones who have suffered more than their share. My heart goes out to them and anyone suffering, and I hope 2025 will bring some relief all around.
10) What was the best thing you bought? Impromptu tickets to see Simone Biles & Co at the GOAT tour! This felt especially special as it was a totally spur-of-the-moment decision; I bought them the day of the show. I took both girls and they had a blast.
11) Where did most of your money go? KIDS (school, activities, childcare) and travel. I’m okay with this, as it matches my current priorities!
12) What did you get really, really excited about? Concerts, marathons, and our ski trips!!
13) What authors did you discover in 2024? I finally read a book by Louise Penny! I did enjoy it and would definitely go back for more.
14) What do you wish you had done more of? Read!! Seriously, I really missed books over the past several months. I also don’t feel I rested particularly well. Here’s to more purposeful lie-downs (with a book!) in 2025.
15) What do you wish you had done less of? Reactive parenting. Sometimes I am too quick to become frustrated; I think I could be more patient. ALSO: spending $ on food delivery!
16) How did your spend Christmas? Skiing at Big Sky!
17) What was your favorite TV program? Probably my favorite watch of 2024 was The Perfect Couple. Sort of terrible and wonderful at the same time. (Honorable mention to Emily in Paris, which . . . same descriptor applies!)
18) What did you want and get? Two BQ marathon times, progress towards a book, and the chance to see Taylor Swift with A! I feel very very lucky about what I wanted and got.
19) What did you want and not get? A BQ time that actually allows me to run Boston (lol, but true!); a less cluttered or decluttered home.
20) What was your favorite film of 2024? Wicked! Admittedly, I don’t see that many movies, but I LOVED this.
21) What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? On my actual birthday I went to work! But we celebrated in Traverse City a few days later with our marathon trip. I turned 44.
22) What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? FINISHING my book. Ahh well. Getting there . . .
23) Who kept you sane? All of you, Josh, running (and my running friends), various text chains.
24) Who did you miss? I really missed seeing my college friends. We had a trip planned but I had to bow out and it was sad, but the right choice at the time.
25) Who was the best new person you met? Shout-out to some of the new faces at 2024’s BLP Live, if any of you are reading this! It was such a lovely group and I feel like I made multiple new friends that weekend.
26) Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2024. Not really a life lesson, but I contemplated mortality and finitude way more in 2024 than I had in previous years.
27) Show us one of your favorite photos from the year. Or 5 . . .

How was 2024 for you? Pick a few questions to answer – or answer them all on your blog!

I am so glad you posted this as well! You had such an amazing year and I feel like your life gives me a glimpse of what is ahead for us in a few years when our youngest is G’s age. I am envious that you got to see TS. It just was not in the cards for me but I have slowly been watching her concert on Disney+ with my super fan, P.
I feel a bit bad that my survey was a bit more negative… I wish I could separate my chronic illness from my feelings about 2024 but they are so tied up together. But I am hopeful about 2025 and can’t wait to have surgery. And I can’t wait to meet you in person finally!! Now if only we could also teleport Kae there!!
Aww, I love that P is super fan!! I am very hopeful your surgery will bring relief! And yes, Kae should fly down too!!! Would be epic!
I’m afraid my survey is pretty negative also. Like “what did you do in your birthday” well, I was post call so I slept most of the day trying not to think of death, and I unsubscribed from my work text thread because people had been wishing me happy birthday *all weekend* (while I was on call when it was not actually my birthday) and I felt like what’s the point of having a bunch of work colleagues who don’t even know or care when my birthday actually is wish me happy birthday. Oh and I went to Puerto Rico without my family which was the best decision ever, and during the summer went to the UP with my family which frankly kind of sucked. We got a new dog even though I don’t have time for it because I no longer care about my job… Oh and I was injured for 4/5 of the year and will probably always have chronic pain in my foot. And that pretty much sums it up! (fake enthusiastic exclamation point for midwestern good measure)
I’m hoping this year will be better for you – I feel sad that work is so lifesucking and I feel like you deserve so much more after all of your training and hard work! Hoping things will look up, and hey – a new dog is exciting and hopefully brought some happy moments.
He is very sweet and I get a bolus of oxytocin (or whatever) whenever he does something cute, which is basically constantly. Best decision ever. 🙂
[…] SHU copied this format from Lisa, and I thought it would be a fun, because 2024 was actually a really eventful year for me. And while I was super impressed with Kae’s Rapid Fire Year in Review, I don’t think I could remember that much from each month (did she write those out as the year progress?!) and I wasn’t quite sure how to go back and recap the year. This will definitely help me. […]
I’m trying Substack and used this as an intro post. So fun!
oh awesome!! (I keep wondering if I should put like, a copy of my posts on substack? (for free). Just not sure if there would be a point!
