Scene #1 – perfect pool weather

From yesterday. I took C / G to the pool and even swam a few laps. Guess what, I still know how to swim (freestyle, back, breaststroke; I never learned butterfly). THANK YOU to all of those years of forced “instructional swim” at Episcopal Academy Day Camp.
I had two main issues: 1) no goggles (so was kinda swimming with my eyes closed, and then when I opened them my contacts got all moved around) + 2) my HR went through the roof. My Apple Watch said 160 (and it only seemed to peak there bc I stopped between each one) and I *felt* it. Sigh. I hate being reminded that I am not in good ‘cardio’ shape, but this was definitely evident.
(I still walk but I mean, I can’t/shouldn’t DO any high intensity cardio so it’s not like I have a way of building or maintaining much fitness there.)
Sooooo after my little experiment, I think I am going to pass on the surf lesson. I have this feeling it’s going to be more anxiety provoking than it’s worth and having an arrhythmia under water just sounds unappealing. I will enjoy watching everyone else!
Scene #2 – surprise delivery

Scene #3 – in decluttering mode!
I didn’t take a before pic but let’s just say this little corner was a full on DISASTER ZONE. And now it’s not!! I even found an item for donation and dropped it off within our neighborhood (Montessori-style wooden letters, glad to give them new life).
That cabinet is totally decluttered (just has a few games/Magnatiles which G still wants for now).

I also did the fridge. I think I am now out of steam but we’ll call that a win.
About to curl up with What You Are Looking for is in the Library as I read a ton of it yesterday (some by the pool) and it’s totally what I needed right now.
Happy Mother’s Day if it applies to you, and Happy Sunday to everyone else.

Thinking of you and your family on this bittersweet mother’s day.
Maybe walking laps in the pool instead?
Happy Mother’s Day, Sarah. <3
Happy USA Mothering Sunday Sarah (that’s what we call it in the UK but ours is in March!), pool looks amazing, sad you can’t swim how you’d like to though. Regarding the surf lesson, my three boys are all keen surfers (we live in a coastal region) and I’ve just asked one of them if you can surf ‘in a chill way’ and he said no because you have to paddle like mad to get out back and then catch waves but there’s also lots of bobbing around waiting for waves so your heart rate spikes up and down which I imagine is not going to be ideal for you. But he said you could do body-boarding which is still fun splashing around and catching waves but without the intense bursts of cardio ❤️
I am sorry that your heart rate rose while swimming. It was good to test it out so you know that surfing is off limits to you. But that is such a bummer! It is tough to have your activity choices out of your control. 🙁
Happy Mother’s Day! That was so sweet of your FIL to get you flowers. What a sweet man! Seems like you won the in-law lottery! Phil and the boys picked out some hanging baskets for me. Phil’s out at his mom’s for the afternoon so I just have the youngest one to manage. It’s nice out so we are heading to the park!
