Trunk Club for Women Review (and plea for help!)

October 27, 2015

It came!  My Trunk Club box arrived.  For those unfamiliar, Trunk Club for Women is similar to subscription clothing service Stitch Fix.  A stylist provides you with a questionnaire, and you indicate the clothing you are interested in receiving (in my case: workwear and going-out tops are what I asked for).  There were also a few questions getting at style preferences, and I indicated that I tended to wear clothing from places like Boden, J. Crew, and Anthropologie.  I also specified that I am 5’1″ and get swallowed by clothing fairly easily.

Differences from Stitch Fix (from what I can gather — I’ve never actually tried Stitch Fix):
— The clothing is from Nordstrom; all familiar brands (will specify below)
— There is no minimum purchase or styling fee.  If I wanted, I could send the whole box back and be out $0, as shipping is free.

SO.  Without further ado, here’s the haul that arrived at my doorstep today!  Please, PLEASE — would love thoughts on what to keep/send back.

[Pix uploaded much darker than on my phone; clicking the images helps somewhat and oddly they look much brighter on a PC than a Mac.  Very mysterious . . . ]

Trouve Top $68
NYDJ Pants (Petite) $110

Madewell silk tank $85

Vince silk top $184

NYDJ Top $66

Rebecca Taylor Top $250
AG Jeans $134

Halogen Cashmere Sweater (Petite) $148

Caslon Sweater (Petite) $98

Halogen Sweater (Petite) $78
Vince Camuto Ponte Pants (Petite) $56

Same as above —
Halogen Sweater (side view)

Topshop top $65
I’m leaning to YES on the Trouve top, the Topshop top, the Halogen greenish sweater, and all of the pants, or at least the jeans and the ponte pants.  I also really like the Rebecca Taylor top, but not $250-like it.
Thoughts!?  Suggestions!?  Would you try this?  Are the pix too dark to see!?!??!

I like the pants & the first top. It’s hard to see the sweater that you liked but green is a great color for you.

I dislike paying full retail but the appeal of having stuff sent to me is tempting!

I tried a pair of nydj jeans at TJmaxx and was pleasantly surprised.

I too like the look of these clothes, especially the Trouve top. But, like the other commenters, I’m wondering about the pricing. Is there a way to indicate your budget in Trunk Club, as I believe there is in StitchFix? I love these sorts of programs, but the pricing always scares me away, as someone whose wardrobe is almost entirely Target and JCPenney.

I agree with your picks. I also like the patterned madewell top. You got some good things!

I just got my trunk – overall, higher quality than stitchfix, but much higher price points. Actually, my trunk had even more expensive things than yours. Which is a problem because they are very tempting!

Love all of your choices. I own a Trouve top (similar but not the same as the one sent to you) and a pair of AG jeans (skinny legging jeans in Endless). They are both great.

The Rebecca Taylor looks lovely but the price much less lovely.

    Happy choosing.

I like the Madewill tank and trouve top. (I like colors!) Your pics are from too far away & too dark to see the details on a lot of the long-sleeved tops, though (esp. the dark colored ones) or the pants. They all look like the same general cut/style, but I’m sure there is something I’m missing! I think you need to go with the bathroom selfie! I’m tempted to try Trunk Club. I’d be curious to see what they got for me, and I like the idea of no styling fee, so I don’t need to keep stuff I don’t love.

Pics are a little dark but I vote for the Madewell top (it’s fun and different and looks great!) and the AG jeans as my faves. Love the color of the Halogen sweater but the honest opinion from one short person to another is that it looks a bit bulky on you. But maybe different in person! Fun post!!

I love the jeans especially – super flattering! That Rebecca Taylor top is great but I agree about the price. My favorites are the Halogen sweater (but will it work in Miami?), the green Trouve top, and the blue NYDJ top. I like the Madewell tank but I think it’s a little big ( I have found their tops to be too flowy for me lately, I like a little more structure).

I like this idea of Trunk Club. I got StitchFix one time and was not really pleased with the quality of the clothing and I didn’t recognize any of the brands, which isn’t necessarily important but I wanted to look up the prices and see if they were reasonable but I couldn’t find the items anywhere online.

Interesting, I hadn’t heard of this service and like that it has no styling fee. I agree with previous posters that you seem like the type who looks good in everything! I am your height but with about 20 extra pounds that all go to my hips/thighs, so I feel like nothing works on my body (skinny pants look terrible, unfortunately! they make me look so short and squat). I like the green color on you. It is kind of hard to differentiate a lot of the darker tops in the photos though.

Some suggestions for photography: first, the photo proportions are about 1/8 you and the outfits, and 7/8 your living room–I suggest zooming in/ cropping so that you fill much more of the space, which will make it easier to see details. Also maybe try a white background instead of the black behind you, as you blend into the background in some of the shots (ninja style! not sure if that’s what you’re going for 🙂 Daytime lighting is usually best but playing with lamp placement (in front of you is best), combined with white background and closer cropped shots should help a lot.

Wow, way nicer than Stitch fix (sorry for allll the girls who post their fix, but it always looks bad imo). Everything is good here, but the best pieces that I think you should keep: jeans, green top (the first) et the black one (the last).

The first two outfits you posted look amazing on you!!! The dark blue halogen sweater is cute, but maybe it would look better unbuttoned. The black topshop top is a great price point and really looks nice on you. That can easily be made more casual with jeans or dressed up. Also, the shoes you are wear are adorable and really look great with those first two outfits. I’d say this was a success for a first delivery!!

I am so jealous they don’t do Trunk Club for Canadians! While the clothes seem a bit pricey, it is to be expected from Nordstrom– and the fact that there is no minimum styling fee is quite good. Also, the service might broaden your preferences (I am also one to shop almost exclusively from a few select faves– JCrew, Anthro, etc.).

I like the first green top (Trouve), the Madewell top and the Topshop top. The pants are difficult to distinguish from the photos, but they all look fine.

    Also- great shoe pick!

The Rebecca Taylor, Halogen sweater (petite), halogen cashmere sweater (petite) are best among them. Id buy them for my bestie and she will like it.
