oh so pretty
i think it’s safe to say that spring is officially HERE in NC — the weather has been absolutely beautiful for the last couple of days, and that breezy ‘academic-year-is-coming-to-a-close’ feeling is in the air. to me, this means several things:
1) in just a couple of months, there are going to be new interns swarming around the hospital with terrified expressions
2) our apartment complex pool is going to fill up with screeching kiddies
3) mosquito bites are imminent
4) i REALLY want to go spring shopping.
shopping in the spring is so much more fun than winter — pretty dresses, cute sandals, and little tops are much more fun (and cheap!) than layers of winter knits. i try to get excited about winter things (ie, boots) but it’s no fun when i’m going to stay bundled in my warmest coats all of the time.
i found multiple summery items to drool over in this month’s anthropologie catalog. i love that store so much –it’s not cheap, but when i splurge on things there, they typically end up being things that i wear again and again so that they are actually worth it! plus, i adore their interesting dresses and fancy ($$$) shoes.
one problem i’ve had in the past is that we have no store nearby, so i’ve had to just shop there when on vacation, or order online. i’ve had great finds in the stores, but online shopping is just not a good idea for someone with my proportions (ie, short). things that look great on the anthro models do not always translate well onto my body. but — exciting news — anthropologie is coming to durham! this mall is just 6 miles from my apartment, so i will have easy access to be able to try everything on. yay!
here are some favorites from the april catalogue:
unfortunately i really don’t NEED any pretty dresses right now (i have a few already in my closet that haven’t been worn all that much), but it’s still fun to dream. and then to go to try things on. and maybe buy myself an early birthday present.
(not really. i’ll be good.)
i satisfied my shopping urges instead with this cute, springy, and eco-friendly notebook from O’BON.
not like i really needed that either, but . . . at least it was only $5.
saturday excitement!

workout: 20 minutes of elliptical, 20 minutes of cycling, and 20 minutes of weights. i just couldn’t face jillian and her jarring plank exercises yesterday, so i subbed in traditional strength training. i think that 2 shreds/week are plenty for me!
interestingly, my strength workout did feel a little easier — especially the pushups — after shredding for a few weeks. that was a nice surprise.
i did:
– 2 x 12 regular pushups (could have done more, honestly)
– 2 x 15 wall squats with ball, 10 lbs each hand
– 2 x 8 tricep push-downs (15 lbs on cable)
– 2 x 10 walking double lunges with 8 lbs each hand
– 2 x 12 bicep curls, 12 lbs each hand
– 2 x 10 seated rows, 40 lbs
– 2 x 15 plank-to-tucks on ball for abs
reading: i had to do my Neonatal Resuscitation Program recertification yesterday morning, so i spent about 45 minutes reviewing the book beforehand.
doin’ time: no cooking — we went out to flying burrito in chapel hill (i think there’s also a chain restaurant with a similar name, but this is not part of that group). i really like their margaritas, so i started with one. as per usual, it did not disappoint.
i’m happy to say (inspired by healthy lifestyles maybe?) that i broke my habit of eating 8 zillion tortilla chips and then not being hungry for my entree. instead, i abstained from the tempting chip bowl and saved the room for my delicious “pescado asado with spinach enchilada smothered in red mole and melted cheese”, which i ordered with a side of mashed sweet potatoes (mmm). in addition to enjoying my dinner more, my reward was leaving without feeling like i was going to rupture my GI tract. bonus!
at dinner, josh and i got to catch up with one another (he’s been at work practically all week) and he only got paged twice. i am amazed (and inspired) at how together he still is after working obscenely long hours for the past several weeks. poor guy. i hope i am doing a good enough job taking care of him.

Spring is always so fun! When prospective students would visit campus when I was in college, I always figured that more would decide to come to Maryland on an awesome spring day than a dreary winter day. People studying/playing frisbee/tanning on the mall (what we called our quad…)? Much more excited than watching students sloshing through snow!
Sweet news about anthropologie coming to Durham. The farmers market was quite lively this morning, did you go? Thanks for the congrats on the newspaper article – they did a cute job with it.
I love the clothing from anthrolopogie but have never been in a store! have to hunt one down on my next trip to the US 🙂
Cumberbund Halter is my fave, too, FWIW. Personally, I now buy practically everything from L.L. Bean! L, da
i see you in the cumberbund dress. and i see me in the quiet light. =)
oh anthropologie how i adore thee. I love each clothing item in your post. I could live in an anthropologie. Is yours going to be in a mall? I ask because I’ve heard they like to be free-standing and I’ve only seen one in a mall (short hills). Please confirm or deny.
