tobacco run

with temps headed up into the 90s today, i am happy to say that my long run is already behind me! starting out at 7 AM, i managed to catch a cool beachy-feeling breeze along with the morning sunshine. also, i met up with lovely durham runner a. and had the first social long run in a while, which was fun. we talked about some science-y job related stuff (but not too much), anthropologie, and the merits of real sugar over fake. it was great!
early birthday
my birthday is still more than 3 weeks away (i’ll be turning 29 for what may be the first of many times). however, i think i’ve already started celebrating. after wearing my previous wallet into the ground (i bought it in florence, italy, 7 years ago), i have been drooling over orla kiely wallets for months now. i had it in my mind that i was going to act on my impulses in charlottesville last weekend.
unfortunately, it is not easy to find all of orla’s designs, which in my experience only adds to the allure. post-race, upon being disappointed by a meager orla collection in charlottesville’s otherwise fabulous boutiques, i went on an internet rampage in search of my favorite wallet. it is a large leather version with hand-stiched stem print, and originally came in 3 colors (blue, orange, and “cappuccino”). while i once drooled over the blue, i ultimately decided that a neutral cafe-colored bag would be the most timeless and versatile. at a site i had never heard of before, 80s purple, i found my long-lost friend.
and here we are, united at last!
close up. it came in the cute drawstring bag pictured.
hooray! i’m just going to consider that a gift from me to . . . me. i might as well finish up my 3rd decade in style.
and now onto my next trick
for a change, i’m not going to publish a laundry list of to-dos today. in fact, i’m not sure what i’m going to do with my free saturday! i have a meeting for a group project to attend, and i’d like to get the reading done for my morning report on monday. there may even be a little shredding later. we’ll see!

workout: 50 minutes on the elliptical + 20 minute hip-opening flow from yogadownload.
doin’ time: i wasn’t 100% true to martha’s recipe (used whole wheat pasta, left out the arugula because we didn’t have any, used olive oil — and just eyeballed it — instead of butter, used pre-cooked chicken sausage rather than the kind that crumbles), but was still a good, easy dinner. served with steamed zucchini with scallions.
i think bell peppers might be my favorite vegetable. they are just so versatile! close runners up are butternut squash and sugar snap peas. tomatoes would be up there, but i’m considering them a fruit. what’s your favorite? feel free to share.

i love the wallet! it surpassed all my expectations of cuteness (which were already high!) from our web surfing frenzy. can you show some pics of the compartmentalized contents after you set up shop?
I’m glad you bought yourself a birthday present. It’s beautiful.
I love bell peppers, mushrooms, spinach, asparagus…hard to pick. Oooh, do potatoes count?
Cute wallet! Sounds like a great early bday present!
My favorite vegetable?? Probably broccoli or asparagus…or just bunch of veggies all mixed together!
