may i have your attention please

November 10, 2010

ahh, think back to high school. remember those all-important ‘announcements’ broadcasted in crackly lo-fi over the PA system each morning? things like, “tryouts for the production of guys and dolls will be held in the auditorium at 3:30 today!” or “the french club will be hosting their annual macaron-only bake sale today” (okay, not really).

hmm, it seems so archaic. maybe this practice has been replaced by an email or tweet! i’ll have to ask one of my patients.

oh my GOD i am old.

anyway. so onto the announcements! i’ll save the best for last. (don’t get TOO excited. this is not like jessica‘s recent announcement).

#1: introducing the breakfast challenge
i wrote about being in a food rut a few weeks ago. thumbing through my new cookbook, i was impressed with a number of interesting breakfast ideas. and yet,

day in . . .
and day out,
i pretty much eat the same variations on a theme. a tasty, but very repetitive theme. i would like to change this! as much as i enjoy this breakfast, i think i would appreciate some variety if i could just bring myself to make something else in the wee hours (i eat breakfast ridiculously early).

so next week i am going to explore the world of more exciting morning meals with a breakfast challenge! there are only two rules in this game.

a) i have to eat something different for breakfast each day

b) only one day out of the seven may be a variation on my standard theme

i am excited! of course, i have many of my favorite food blogs to turn to for inspiration in addition to my cookbooks. i think this will be fun and i will be sure to share the hits & misses of the week.

announcement #2: home is where the heart is
i am going to take part in the apartment therapy 20/20 home cure! unofficially, though, because signup is closed. basically, this is a 20-day program promising apartment bliss (and maybe inner peace?) at the low, low price of just 20 minutes a day.

i think this will be fun!

As much as I do like the practicality of the 2011 planner I got at walmart, the thin paper bleeds so I'm entering the contest! In 2011 I am planning to (work) revise our resident teaching curriculum for the rheum rotation and (fun) attempt to take 2 weeks off in a row for a vacation!

  • Reply da November 10, 2010 at 12:02 pm

For me, breakfast routine is a plus. I'd be lost without my daily "bolaCheerios"!

  • Reply Jessie November 10, 2010 at 12:34 pm

I'm actually reading your blog while my high school students (I'm a Biology teacher) are listening to the morning announcements! They have definitely improved in quality. The TV production class puts on an impressive newscast, and the students then watch a national news program for high school students.

Another just as exciting thing I'm planning is to start my own blog. I'm planning my wedding! And I need to start a training schedule for running…

  • Reply Sarah November 12, 2010 at 5:57 pm

I wasn't going to enter this, but then saw your comments today about the main themes and thought I'd veer in another direction! Having read about your "breakfast challenge" I suggested to my other half that perhaps he could try it. He has a very strict and particular breakfast routine that makes me laugh. So my challenge for 2011 is to try and persuade the boyfriend to eat 7 different breakfasts!!!!

I love this giveaway. For 2011 I'm definitely planning on getting an apartment that summer. Which is extremely exciting to have a place of your own. What's more exciting is decorating it! I'm so excited I cannot wait! 😀

I'm planning to get married (I'm just hoping the boyfriend is planning the same)…and even if that doesn't work out (as I've planned), I'm planning to run my first marathon.

I am planning NOT to plan… I am the queen of "the plan"…
I planned to graduate nursing school…done
I planned to get a job in a level 1 trauma center neuro trauma unit…done
I planned to go back to school for my masters… done
I planned to do a marathon or a few… done
I planned to do some triathlons, done
I plan my patients trips to tests, lab work, etc.
I plan when to have QT my man, I plan when and what I am going o eat, I plan my outfits the night (or week) before wearing…
I even plan my runs around potty stops.

How about I stop making plans and just live.

Afterall, "life is what happens to us while we are busy making other plans".

Hi! I'm a new reader and found your blog from KathEats! I have a slight obsession with finding the perfect pens and planners so this one might be it! I think, above everything else I have planned for 2011, is learning how to be okay with not planning every aspect of my life!

In 2011 I plan to run my first half marathon! 🙂

I am planning the arrival of my first baby in 2011…more specifically, April 12, 2011 (give or take a couple of days!)!!!!!! We had the all important ultrasound yesterday and found out…..It's a BOY!!!! It also hit home yesterday, that, Holy Cr@p—I'm really pregnant! Yeah, yeah, I knew I was pregnant and all but I haven't felt him move yet and honestly, it just felt like I was getting fat! But seeing that bouncing baby boy moving all around yesterday made me realize that in about 20 more weeks, in the awesome year of 2011, I'll be a first time mama!!!!!!!! In the words of Joey from Blossom, "Woah!"

Wow Sarah, fun giveaway!! I must be your oldest blog reader, based on most comments! For 2011 I am planning on finding a full-time job that I love as much as the one I did for the last 18 years… freelancing is crazy stressful for me!
And to spend more time with my two young sons before they get any older. The trick will be making those two things happen at the same time… I need that planner!

First let me just say that I perused your blog and gathered all the great tips I could. I liked your planner book layout so much, I tried to emulate the layout on a simple notebook. It may not be the fanciest but it works. And later I came across this giveaway, I really hope I can win one.
I am planning to finish my Masters by the end of 2011 or early 2012, this planner will help me get a hold of my life and keep everything in order.
