the month so far

October 6, 2015
So far, this month has been . . . really wonderful.  I have been settling into a good routine, and (for once) have been able to keep up with my intentions.

Josh and I had a great weekend in Chicago — I had accompanied him to celebrate his induction into the American College of Surgeons.  The ceremony was nice, and it was just lovely to have that couples and family time (Josh’s parents came too – his father is an ACS member too, as was his grandfather).  Notably, I cannot tell you how much I appreciated my quiet uneventful flights in both directions.*

We ran around Lake Michigan, ate at MK and avec (both are good, but I actually prefer the latter especially in terms of value!), and did a little shopping.  I felt a tinge of guilt at being away from A&C, but realized that this year, I spent 4 weekends away from home out of 52.**  I actually think that’s an excellent ratio:  quarterly retreats, for work/love/friendship.
Upcoming posts
1) distraction / task switching
2) Simplicity Parenting, which I just finished
one
3) wardrobe / style
* After our trip to NC I decreed that there would be no further family air travel until Cameron turns 3.  Luckily there is plenty to do in FL.

** Plus call weekends, but I am not gone all day when on call.

She is now obsessed with the mini Melissas even though they are a size too big!

Looks like a great Chicago weekend! I had to comment because I am so happy you went to Avec–it is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere, and definitely a great value for the quality of food. I haven’t been to Chicago for a few years and now I’m daydreaming about getting a few days away. Also, weirdly, I have the same rug as pictured with A and C at your nanny’s house. And here I am, commenting all about me 🙂 Congrats to you husband for such a great accomplishment!

So glad you enjoyed Chicago and congrats to you and your husband! We are sort of similarly situated but a few years behind you. My husband is a PGY 4 at Northwestern (almost done! Except for fellowship… But that’s only a year, so I still count it as almost done!). I’m not in medicine but am a working mom of one sweet 10 month old. I love your perspective. It’s so refreshing and honest, and really helps me to step back and think big picture sometimes 🙂
