This week I think I made some progress with speed, and that run in Austin is proof to me that some of what has made me soooo slow (and with a lot of effort for my slowness!) is our weather.  Which, by the way, is finally improving!  A breezy October 75F feels much better than the usual humid 79-81F that I ran through all summer.  I am feeling like maybe I will be able to get some speed back after all.  I am starting ‘official’ training for the Miami Half on 10/31.

Meals
M – leftover fried chicken / salad / mac ‘n’ cheese

T – shrimp, plantains, broccoli

W – tacos

R – tacos in salad form 🙂

FS – away in Austin

S – big salad + some random prepared foods from WF

Sorry, this meal plan isn’t going to inspire anyone.  Maybe this week will be better.

Reading
Finished Here I Am, onto Today Will Be Different.  (loved the former and loving the latter.  I may be entering a reading renaissance.)

Watching
New season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Listening
Music – New Bon Iver.  Very interesting, but I’m not sure how I feel about it yet.
Podcast –  Planet Money has been knocking it out of the park lately – I liked their Wells Fargo episode, the Subaru episode, and the story of the inventor/origin of self-checkout.  Bonus: NONE of them are about the election.  Speaking of which, I voted (by mail).  Yay!  Cannot wait until it’s over.

Blog posts of note:
Laura Vanderkam’s post on Fertility and False Choices.  I’m not sure how I feel about the whole egg-freezing situation, but her post was thought-provoking as always 🙂

Boho Berry’s gorgeous Filofax Bullet Journal — omg.  I have Filo envy.  (But I’m not going to budge from my Hobonichi ways)

What have you been reading / listening to / eating / kvetching about lately?  Have an idea for another category?  Let me know 🙂

Planet Money is my single favorite spoken podcast! (My favorite music podcast is Old Time Rock ‘n Roll.) Lately, though, I can’t resist listening to NPR Politics 🙂

I was pretty ambivalent towards having kids when I was in my early/mid twenties, so I definitely would not have chosen to have eggs frozen. And now that I have a son (and another baby on the way) it has taken me a long time to be comfortable telling people that I’m choosing to be a stay at home mum rather than going back to work as an optometrist. I think this statement in Laura’s post sums up how I used to feel: "female empowerment is about making women more like men". To me that meant that wanting kids, and then also wanting to be their primary carer felt like a weak choice to me. I’m glad I was able to finally see past that view!

Ooh it’s interesting that your HR was lower on the cooler run in Austin, too, despite the faster pace!

As I was reading the post by Laura Vanderkam, I was reminded of the whole subplot on The Mindy Project about her fertility clinic and targeting college students to freeze their eggs. As someone who has and is currently dealing with infertility (yep), I have a hard time accepting the idea that someone would choose the most difficult route for becoming pregnant.

I am excited about this new season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend but I have to admit I’m sad that they changed the theme song! I really loved the old one, it made me so happy to hear it when we would start the show!

Also I just noodled around that FiloFax post and have been looking at BuJo pictures in general since you’ve been posting about them. It is so beautiful, and is very similar to the system I’ve created for myself. However, it seems like maintaining a BuJo and setting up the FiloFax to work with the system is a part-time job! I’m also NOT an artist and I feel like I would constantly be throwing away pages that have poorly drawn headings and such 😉

oh man, LV’s post got my blood up (not her words, the topic). I’m just catching up on blog reading and I might have gone on a teeny rant in her comments.
I put both of those books on my library holds list today! I’m reading A Fine Balance and it is sllllloooowww going. (SO LONG and so far not grabbing my attention, and there are some parts that seem so familiar I wonder if I’ve tried to read it before?) Your strong recommendation is keeping me going.
I haven’t watched Crazy Ex-GF yet…may have to give it a try. Hooked on "Stranger Things" on netflix right now. Its creepy and weird—not usually my style but now that I’m in I have to see what’s next.
