I ended up going to bed at 9:20 pm because Annabel ended up in my bed (Josh was in the OR) and I couldn’t bring myself to turn on my reading light for fear of disturbing her. Plus maybe I was just that tired, although I just started a new book that is great so far (Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie).
On the downside, kind of a lame Friday night. On the upside, I woke up at 5:30 am feeling pretty rested! I’m really looking forward to this weekend. Josh is off (though I have designated Saturday morning as his time for work catchup), and we have a whole slew of social events. 2 kids’ bday parties (one for each kid*), family gatherings, a long run, pool time, and a play date to boot.
I am sure there will be plenty of political discussion and fearful speculation. I am going to try my hardest to just enjoy the family/social time and breathe.
* I can never tell from invites whether or not siblings are welcome, but for these two I’m just bringing the ‘invited’ kid.

A CONVERSATION WITH ANNABEL
Me: Annabel, what do you want to be when you grow up?
Annabel: A doctor.
Me, not wanting her to pigeonhole herself too early: Okay, that’s a great idea, but there are lots of other great things you could do too.
Annabel: Actually I don’t want any job.
Me: Oh. What are you going to do all day, then?
Annabel: Lie on the couch and rest.

That’s the idea Annabel! I like the way she thinks.
Sounds like a fun weekend! Enjoy!
How do you pick the books you want to read?
1) I’m in a book club that dictates about 25-50%
2) The What Should I Read Next podcast & Modern Ms Darcy blog
3) Randomly surfing around on amazon 🙂
Americanah is a wonderful and engaging book. I went to bed at 9 last night – don’t feel bad about it!
At this point lying on the couch seems like a lovely life goal. Alas, here I sit in a cabg.
I LOVE Americanah. Glad you’re enjoying it! Also, I follow the author on FB and she was at the women’s march yesterday, so even cooler 🙂
I’m almost finished with Americana! I’ve really enjoyed it so far, although it feels like it’s getting a little long in the last 100-150 pages.
