Hooray! I can see the entire screen again. I bit the bullet and ordered a new MacBook Pro approximately 1 year ahead of my standard new laptop every 5 years schedule. This particular edition was annoyingly expensive, and has no USB drive (seriously?). But the screen looks lovely, it has a space-age-looking Touch Bar at the top with fingerprint identification, and I have to say — I kind of love it.
Josh has been on call this weekend so I have been on mostly solo parenting duty. Yesterday we drove to MIA to run around the Frost Science museum. G fell asleep on the way home and kind of wrecked her nap (noooooo) so today I was more strategic, marching her straight upstairs after some pool & sun time. This worked; it’s 2:13 and she has been asleep for over 2 hours. I used that time to do a partial digital cleanup of my new toy (hello random files that I don’t need from 2007?).
I am debating just letting go of all of my photos from past years, since I have made physical photobooks and honestly — that’s probably enough, right? Plus, I also have the blog (!) and I’m not someone who feels the need to keep every relic from years past (I Kon-Mari’d my wedding dress, and have no regrets). The only thing I don’t want to part with is the videos, which A&C spent a solid hour watching with me today. Impossible to get that footage back once it’s gone!
In other news, I worked out zero times this weekend (see above re: solo parenting, plus I just felt the need for a mini-break). I am probably going to take everyone to yet another museum once G wakes up and then I am crossing fingers Josh will be able to joins us for dinner (somewhere that is open on Easter Sunday. Hmmm . . .).
PS: BALTIMORE – someone suggested a mini meetup. I will be there next Thursday night through Monday AM. Anyone else interested? If so – email me and let me know if Fri vs Sat would work and if you have any good venue ideas (wine bar?)!
PPS: I hear G. Fastest post ever. Excuse the lack of images!

I wouldn’t delete the digital photos! What if the physical photo books get lost or damaged in a flood/fire/etc? Or just get damaged with age? I would want to have digital backup available…but that’s just me!
To be clear, we have a good chunk of them already uploaded to google photos, plus they are saved in Shutterfly (digitally plus I could always get new albums from there) in addition to what is on the digital archive of this blog!
Don’t delete the images without backing them up! At the very least upload to Google photos to keep them. You need the photos for the embarrassing wedding slideshow one day! Or just to show to their prom dates. 😂
I am on board with the idea that some digital images can go. Kids are so hard to photograph that I usually take about 10 pictures for one good one. I keep those that are funny or good but get rid of the ones that are blurry, etc. which is a surprisingly large number! And yay for new laptops. I just got one too (Windows but tiny) and it also has no USB drive. I got a little dock that plugs in to the USB-C with an HDMI port and 2-3 USBs. I hook it up to my monitor and keyboard when I’m at home.
I love the idea of the photos but have the same idea about the video clips. I had tried looking for a service that can put them all in a row on a disc anyone know of such a service ? We dont have a CD drive as most new computers..
I have a 7 to 10 minute video made every year of all of our home videos and it’s fantastic! I upload this video in a private link to YouTube and create a QR code and put it in our annual photo book so we have a great video to go with our photos! I know it’s hard to watch the tons of short videos! I use a service called Viddedit but there’s lots of companies I think that do them..
Oh wow – that’s very cool!
I buy two external hard drives and back up my photos to each about once a year. Then I throw the drives in the bottom desk drawer and don’t look at them again till the next year’s backup. Inexpensive, effective, and I feel no guilt about subsequently culling down what I keep on my laptop or in cloud storage.
I like that – simple! I do have a backup on a 1TB external hard drive, too.
