Best Laid Plans Ep #41: From Essentialism to Effortless with Greg McKeown

May 3, 2021

First of all, I have to say I was immensely flattered that Greg McKeown’s team contacted me to see if I was interested on having him on Best Laid Plans. I mean, I just heard him on the Tim Ferriss Show (!).

Tim Ferriss Show, BLP. 500 million downloads, 183,000 downloads. My podcast has 0.04% of the downloads of that show.

Lol.

I don’t know how BLP hit the publicist’s radar, but it was exciting nonetheless. Admittedly, I was a little nervous for this interview. Some of you who have listened for a while may be able to tell! BUT as it turns out, Greg McKeown was very . . . normal. And nice. So in the end, I think it went reasonably well! The topics we went into were quite different than those that Tim addressed, but I think the themes of his work came through.

I also enjoyed hearing a little bit about how Greg plans. Because as always, I was just curious!

Find Greg here and his book here (and everywhere books are sold)!

IN OTHER BLP-adjacent news: big Erin Condren release today (new Life Planners)! I have to admit I am excited for the one. As previously, please email me or leave a comment with your email if you would like a $10 coupon. I am hoping there is an A5 hourly layout . . . guess we will all find out soon!

So excited to listen to this!! I’m in the middle of his book on Audible, so this was a fun surprise to see him on your podcast. Keep up the great work, Sarah!

No A5 hourly that I saw other than the daily. I was disappointed there was no vertical or hourly option in either coil or ring A5. My guess is that you can’t fit 4 of their classic 1.5 inch columns on the A5 size page (giving each day a full size column).

      I know 🙁 I’m so sad!

Go Sarah! This is so exciting.
Also,183,000 downloads is pretty amazing, too! I have NO podcast and my only “followers” are aged 6 and 10 and require frequent snacks and toilet breaks.

Well, I am now going to buy his book after reading it here….so I think his publicists know what they are doing 🙂

What a great interview! I’m off to read both his books now. I heard him on Cal Newport’s podcast last week but I actually liked your interview better. Somehow you got to a point with him that really resonated. Thanks!

Wonderful interview! His take on gratitude was fascinating, I’m still ruminating on it and thinking about how to implement it into my life. Look forward to reading Effortless!
