= my age today!
Sigh. Getting older is never great, but I do feel very happy with how my life is at 41.
Things I am happy about related to my age:
I don’t have that many gray hairs yet. Of course I have some but not really to the point being super noticeable or changing the color of my hair. (While I go to elaborate lengths to keep my hair straight so i don’t have to deal with frizz, I have never used color. Not saying I never would, will leave that door open!)
I can still run without pain, and started consistently doing some strength training in my late 30s to hopefully ward off muscle atrophy as long as possible. (Of course I could always do MORE, but really did not do it consistently until then.)
My vision still corrects to 20/20 with contacts and no farsightedness has crept in. I’m soooo nearsighted that it actually might prevent this from occurring for a while. That’s what I’m hoping!
I have probably at least 9 more years of safely taking my OCP before having to worry about any annoying hormonal shifts.
Um, that’s about it.
Josh gave me a freaking awesome gift (Book of the Month through Parnassus Books!) and it has been a lovely day. I just got a massage + facial and am going to spend some time lounging around and thinking about the future – my favorite. More tomorrow!

Happy Birthday! Sounds like a lovely day.
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday! Your honest posts during the pandemic have been so helpful for me. Thankful for you!
PS G is so cute
Happy birthday! What a lovely day – massage, facial AND books 🙂
And you do work with awesome people!
Happy Birthday!! Sounds like you’re having a fabulous day!
Well, one obvious plus of turning 41 is that you’re still alive. Don’t underestimate that one. Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday, Sarah! I bet you know there’s many more items you could have added to that list of things you are happy about related to your age. You included only physical functionality items. Let’s not forget of your accumulated experiences, knowledge, wisdom, and how well – and honestly – you put them into words. Those are the items that keep your readers coming back here daily. The physical stuff is a bonus but they aren’t what you’ll be remembered for. Enjoy!
Thank you so much Helena!!!
Happy Birthday! Do you read Cup of Jo? I liked the Stacy London post from earlier this week. She talks about aging and how it’s a gift. I try to keep that in perspective although that’s easier some days than others! I have a lot of gray and have since my 20s so I color my hair as I’m not ready for gray just yet… That gift from Josh is awesome – the gift that keeps on giving! And I love that it supports an awesome Indie! I hope you are having a wonderful day and enjoy the much-deserved pampering! I feel like I need to celebrate my 1/2 bday this year. I was home on mat leave for my 40th and while I enjoyed lots of baby snuggles, caring for a 2-month old isn’t very relaxing. 😉 But now that he’s in daycare, I should take a day off for some relaxation and pampering. I’m accepting that relaxation just doesn’t happen on the weekends when you have young kids whose naps never seems to line up so I will be strategically using PTO to give myself a break when I really need it!
My Dad always likes to say, if someone comments on his age on his birthday, “Well, it sure beats the alternative!” (i.e. no longer being alive to have more birthdays!!!) Happy, happy birthday, Sarah! Reading your blog is always a little bright spot in my morning. 🙂
My dad says the same thing 😛 I love getting older!!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!!
OMG G is so cute with those braids!
Those braids!!! Happy happy birthday!! Cheers to many more 🙂
Happy Birthday! You look so young!
Happy birthday Sarah! Enjoy your day– as someone turning 43 in a couple of months, I think 41 is young 🙂
Happy birthday!!
You know what else you could add to your list? Your & Josh’s commitment to your finances! You have said many times how you went from being essentially financially illiterate to having a budget, savings and investment goals, etc—and sticking with them! That’s HUGE and not common for your age in this country. So brava to you!
Also, awesome blogger, podcaster, and master planner all deserve a spot on the list.
YES, definitely has been progress there the past few years! Thank you Elizabeth!!
Happy, happy day!
So glad you had a good birthday. That book club looks amazing! Enjoy.
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday you wonderful thing you. I never mind becoming another year older – the alternative is not very appealing! Xx
