Parenting Weekend

Today

July 17, 2021

Fantasy Version:

Sleep late

Leisurely breakfast

Lie around and read for hours

Possibly a workout if feeling up to it

Watch something on Netflix

Order takeout

Rest and rejuvenate from the week

Reality Version

Up at 7 (could be much worse!) – this was ~9 hrs sleep!

Herd 3 kids to ice skating. Watch class.

They are improving! Genevieve is upright for ~85% fo class now!

Come home. Provide snacks. Hope kids will play independently for a while + let me read on couch.

snapped as I type this. Josh is doing a sewing project with A.

Possibly workout during afternoon screen time

Takeout

Corral kids to bed

I mean, not exactly the same BUT I will say objectively improved from ~2 years ago. Progress!

I find myself so desperate for time to do what *I* want some times. Especially since the pandemic started and every one is home so much. But occasionally I remember I’m like 8-10 years away my daughter thinking I’m super lame and only wanting to be with her friends and this doesn’t seem too bad! I dunno it’s really all about my frame of mind.

Weekends are so different as a parent of young kids. My husband and I talk about how TGIF isn’t really a thing right now for us because weekends can be more exhausting with a 7.5m and 3.5yo than the work week when they are at school and we are focusing on work… So I don’t put too many expectations on our weekends right now, except for some things I absolutely want to do – like run 5 miles on Saturday morning (which I did – longest run in a very long time!), take the 3yo to swim lessons, and get the 3yo’s hair cut. We did end up having a really nice weekend all in all and I feel like our 3yo is getting slightly less difficult than he was a month or so ago. He still have his moments but I think *maybe* the hardest part of this year is behind us (we’ve found 2.5-3.5 to be very challenging)?? Fingers crossed!
