BLPA is Coming!

October 26, 2022

Announcement: BLPA (BLP Academy) is coming!

I have mentioned a course several times and I 100% never meant to be coy or sneaky about it; I just hadn’t solidified the format / dates / etc! I have been working on the material for over a year now, and am thrilled to announce that it will launch in Quintile 1 2023!

This experience will help those looking to truly refine their personal planning, goal-setting, and organizing techniques to help bring on the best 2023 (and beyond) possible, and I would truly LOOOVE the first cohort to be full of OG blog readers because obviously you are the best.

The format will be:

  • 7 live (and recorded) sessions held approximately every other week between mid-January and the end of March (perhaps the end of Quintile 1, depending on your school calendar!). These will be group teaching, sharing, and troubleshooting – so we can all learn from each other. I’m hoping it will have a true community feel. Topics will range from annual planning to designing your daily rituals to specialized topics such as travel, finances, and more.
  • There will be textbook and printable workbook style guides for each session, so we can all plan and vision together. I have a designer working on these and she is amazing and they are going to be pretty!
  • Short videos (this part scares me the most, but I know it must be done!) to go along with each session – kind of a summary of each topic
  • Private sharing group so people can share goals lists and much more in a protected setting without social media distractions
  • Possible ‘extras’: a session for physicians, a session for parents of young children, and a session for non-parents (and – you all can tell me what I might be missing)

This will be a paid experience, as it will definitely take a lot of time and effort to produce, but I hope to make it worthwhile. I do not know the pricing yet, but the first group will definitely be my lowest-priced cohort.

If you have suggestions for the best meetup time (was thinking perhaps 1 pm on Thursdays?) I would love to hear them. And stay tuned for more details — I want to make the dates final very soon so those who like to plan ahead (ahem) can do so. I just wanted to share what is coming!

In other very unrelated news

I just received the dance showcase uniform announcement and I died:

The worst part is that most of the other little-kid ballet/jazz costumes are traditional little tutus. This is both tragic and hilarious and I hope G can see the ummm beauty in the above outfit.

This is life right now. Creative endeavors and bizarre costumes and patients and math homework and much more. Feeling grateful and wanting to soak it all in.

    Congratulations! That’s an exciting step.

And OMG, that outfit! What on earth? Who dresses 4 year olds in that?

  • Reply akapulko2020 October 26, 2022 at 11:39 am

BLPA sounds amazing! I don’t have input re: time because I’m in UTC+3 so it would be inconvenient either way, so probably will be going the recordings’ route.

  • Reply Shion M Gosrani October 26, 2022 at 11:49 am

BLPA sounds amazing! I’ve got a lot going on in 2023 and think BLPA could really help me. Also, I’m a UK listener so 1pm for you, is 6pm for me so ideal! Feels like it was meant to be 🙌🏾

Can’t wait to hear more about this

  • Reply Amanda October 26, 2022 at 12:00 pm

Excited to hear more about BLPA! Well, G will be ready for disco night at least 😉

  • Reply Chelsea October 26, 2022 at 12:16 pm

I wonder what they are dancing to? Stayin’ Alive? The YMCA? That will be memorable if nothing else, lol.

  • Reply Allee October 26, 2022 at 12:36 pm

The course sounds great! Especially the brainstorming aspect. I am finding that a lot of planning/productivity people I like are upholders, so sometimes as a questioner I need to tweak ideas to really make them work for me.

  • Reply Beth October 26, 2022 at 1:03 pm

This sounds amazing!! Any chance at least some of the meetups could be scheduled outside of 9-5 work hours to accommodate people tied to that type of schedule? Of course, I know you have to work around your schedule and those of your kids, too, so it might be that the recordings are the best option for some people.

  • Reply Erin October 26, 2022 at 1:03 pm

Yahoo! I am thrilled to hear about BLPA and hope to participate!

  • Reply RW October 26, 2022 at 1:08 pm

frequent reader, rarely comment– session for academics??

    • Reply T October 27, 2022 at 7:37 am

Agreed! Academics and writers? (I too am a loooong time reader, first time commenter!)

I really dislike the sexualization of children — that’s not a kid costume

      • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger October 27, 2022 at 9:52 am

I agree, 100% not my favorite! Trying to grin & bear it b/c it’s such an outlier and next year hopefully she’ll get something cute and appropriate!

    • Reply MB October 27, 2022 at 8:05 am

Ditto and I would love that!

  • Reply Kim Cohn October 26, 2022 at 1:19 pm

1pm works great very excited for this!

  • Reply Elisabeth October 26, 2022 at 1:28 pm

That outfit. There are literally no words.

And such an exciting announcement about your planning launch!! Go SHU <3

  • Reply Lis October 26, 2022 at 1:48 pm

    Sounds wonderful, Sarah! Congrats!

  • Reply Sonna October 26, 2022 at 2:08 pm

That outfit is pure sass, love it. Congrats on BLPA! Hoping to join. 1pm is 6pm here in the UK, and on a Thursday actually works great with my crazy schedule, it’s a sign 🙂

  • Reply Amanda K October 26, 2022 at 2:12 pm

Love this. Very exciting. Would love an evening (outside of work hours) option.

  • Reply Marianne October 26, 2022 at 2:14 pm

    Ready to pay!
And at the moment that time works because it is a break between my 3 classes. But I would also consider other options or accepting asynchronous only. Do I still get to count this on my 45 while 45 if it starts before my March birthday though?

    • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger October 26, 2022 at 2:28 pm

      yes you do 🙂

      • Reply Marianne October 26, 2022 at 5:31 pm

Excellent news! That item is currently under Misc (I have 9 categories w/ 5 items each though perhaps you qualify as adulting?) and it is labeled “BLP or BOBW something or other.”

  • Reply Lori C October 26, 2022 at 2:21 pm

My credit card is ready!!! I’ve been waiting for you to do this!!! Wooo hooooo

  • Reply Amelia K. October 26, 2022 at 2:50 pm

Hi Sarah. This is my first comment but I have been a long time reader and follower. Have you considered opening the “extras” group for physicians to other health care professionals? I am a clinical pharmacist and have always heavily related to your work and home pain points, including battling the EPIC inbox (haha). Excited for your much anticipated ecourse!

    • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger October 26, 2022 at 3:17 pm

ooh!! good point. I agree, similar challenges!!! Thank you!!!!

  • Reply Aimee T. H. Kessler October 26, 2022 at 2:51 pm

Would love to participate in BLP Academy but 1 pm on a Thursday is dead in the middle of the work day.

    • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger October 26, 2022 at 3:18 pm

Hi! I might consider different slots or dual slots! if you had your pick, what would you choose? Would love the feedback!

  • Reply Amanda October 26, 2022 at 3:17 pm

Congrats on launching BLPA. As for G’s costume…no words! She will rock it.

  • Reply Helena Murphy October 26, 2022 at 3:44 pm

How about a special group for freelancers? Planning is particularly complex when you don’t have control over when work will be offered/confirmed/canceled and hours (and locations) vary! I’m wondering if there might be others in the same category.

  • Reply Sophie October 26, 2022 at 4:01 pm

This is so exciting! Being in Australia, 1pm is 3am my time. But if you ran any evening sessions your time (or any time after 3pm), I could attend as that would be my morning. Otherwise recordings for me!
Oh and I second a session for academics. 🙂
    Keep up the amazing work.

  • Reply Katie October 26, 2022 at 4:31 pm

This sounds great! Similar to Helena’s comment about freelancers, I’d love a special session for creatives/small (solo) business owners. Tips for obligers who are their own boss (tricky) and how to balance the parts of your job you love with the parts you don’t love.

    • Reply Amy October 26, 2022 at 6:52 pm

Yes! I’m a therapist who is (somewhat) self-employed. This resonates!

  • Reply Alison October 26, 2022 at 4:53 pm

Super excited to hear about BLPA! I learn so much from you on the podcast & would love to dig deeper. In 2023, my youngest of 3 will start elementary school & would love a breakout for parents of young children. I also work a hybrid schedule and feel like we are all to and from at any given moment.

  • Reply Amy October 26, 2022 at 6:53 pm

This is so cool! I think something like this could be really useful for me. I’m in a very full season of life and have been feeling the need to revamp some of my systems to be more mindful of all the plates I have spinning. I’m excited to learn more about this!

  • Reply Lindsay October 27, 2022 at 1:12 am

LOVE the BLPA! Congrats, and I’m excited to join!

1pm is fantastic for me (or anytime during the workday, as long as I know in advance). Evenings are harder because I’m on the west coast, and your late evening is my 5/6pm after-school activity rush.

I’m also a clinical pharmacist, too, so high-fives to fitting them in with “those who see patients and answer EHR inboxes” all day.

Another group idea could be for the non-upholders, as mentioned above. I’m a rebel and I definitely have to put my own spin on all podcast/other advice to make it work for me.

Love your work – so excited for this new step!

  • Reply Abigail October 27, 2022 at 2:59 am

Oh how very exciting (not the costume – that is just silly. No more than silly – utterly ludicrous!). I am also in UK, so 1pm Thursday works for me. I am a carer for my mum, so a group for carers could help me get my head around that aspect of my planning. But I appreciate there may not be many of us.
Well done on getting to this stage amidst the rest of your full life! Very impressive indeed.

  • Reply Katie October 27, 2022 at 5:06 am

Very exciting! I will be very keen to sign up!

As a UK reader with a crazy schedule that changes frequently, it would likely have to be recordings for me so I really hope recordings are offered!!

I also wanted to suggest, as I know you have taken a financial hit because of reducing hours to focus even more on this site and your podcasts, would you consider setting up a SHU/BLP Patreon? I already support via BOBW but would be happy to send a few dollars a month just to say thank you for the content you are already creating, as well as being keen to buy/support your new plans as well! I suspect I’m not alone in being ready to do this if you head down this route… 🙂

  • Reply JGold October 27, 2022 at 7:44 am

Very exciting news! 1pm on a workday (or anytime in workday) would be really challenging but I would definitely watch a recording

  • Reply Meredith October 27, 2022 at 7:47 am

Love the BLPA idea! I’m also Australian so would appreciate if the calls were held during waking hours for us, but I do realise we’re probably a tiny percentage of your target audience.

  • Reply MP October 27, 2022 at 9:00 am

So exciting! Wonder about making the MD session broader-MDs, Other healthcare workers, and academics? Don’t know the perfect time as I bet anytime may have conflicts for some. Maybe record and make that option available for participants that cannot attend live? Looking forward to it!

    • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger October 27, 2022 at 9:53 am

Yes! A pharmacist already mentioned this and I think it’s a great idea – could just call it “health care-related careers”!!!

  • Reply gwinne October 27, 2022 at 9:53 am

    This sounds awesome, Sarah. Congrats!

I’m not inclined to participate in anything synchonous but would be super interested in an asynchronous version perhaps with the ability to connect with others on a message board (as long as not FB!). I”d definitely be keen to chat with other academics on these issues. Or others in similar life situations (i.e. single parents).

    • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger October 27, 2022 at 10:02 am

Facebook (or any social media platform) will not be a part of BLPA. Message board style and private only 🙂

  • Reply Alyssa October 27, 2022 at 7:22 pm

Very excited for this!! Thurs 1 PM would generally work for me but would love the recording option in case there are some days I can’t make.

  • Reply Mariana October 28, 2022 at 5:26 am

This is exciting! Would love to join. I live in Switzerland, so will try to join the lives if possible… if they are during the day in the US I should be able to make it, but if they end up being in the evening (middle of the night here), then I will have to go asynchronous 🙂

  • Reply Shelly October 29, 2022 at 5:30 pm

Exciting! Maybe consider group for professionals with older kids (teens). Also some times for west coast folks?

  • Reply Angela R Shetzer October 30, 2022 at 7:52 pm

I would love to participate in the BLPA as well but middle of the work day just isn’t feasible unless the sessions could be recorded and then a forum type of communication setup. I’m a Controller of a large company with multiple large projects and have just started with Hobonichi and think this would be amazing. I also own a scrapbook company and teach lots of classes there so my schedule gets complicated.

  • Reply Jane T. October 30, 2022 at 8:32 pm

So excited for this!! I could usually do midday as my lunch break but would also happily catch up asynchronous.

Also seconding someone above – I’d sign up for a Patreon!

  • Reply BethC October 31, 2022 at 11:26 am

Long time reader and BOBW Patreon member. Would love a subgroup for people without kids or empty nesters. My kids are grown, and I’ve found that my use of time has changed significantly. I would love to be more intentional about using my free time.

  • Reply KM November 3, 2022 at 9:22 am

Hi Sarah, wondering if your course would be appropriate for someone with ADHD who has struggled with time management & organization her whole life & is just realizing why or if it’s geared more towards people looking to improve something they already do naturally or at least fairly well?

    • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger November 3, 2022 at 9:51 am

Hi! It’s so hard for me to answer that before getting feedback from those who have completed, and I want to be honest! I think it will provide some dedicated time, space, and ideas to help you think through challenges. I also think that like BLP, it’s accessible at different levels – those who feel like they are starting from the beginning and planning nerds who enjoy spending time thinking about and honing their systems.

  • Reply Lani Inlander November 3, 2022 at 10:30 am

Sorry I’m just catching up here! I’m in for the course and DYING over the outfit. May I be their new fashion director 😂?

    • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger November 3, 2022 at 11:54 am

YES PLEASE. and I am so excited you joined!!!!!!

  • Reply Marissa November 5, 2022 at 8:37 am

Oh shoot! I tried to sign up for BLPA and it looks like it’s closed for Q1. Looking forward to joining in the future. Congrats Sarah!

    • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger November 5, 2022 at 9:06 am

I am putting together a waitlist so people can be notified first about the next round! I just want to be able to give all the round 1 participants lots of attention and make sure it runs smoothly before expanding. But yay so glad people are excited!

  • Reply Jessica Tripler January 3, 2023 at 5:28 pm

I see the first cohort has filled. Before I give my email to the waitlist, is there information about cost for this program? Sorry if I missed it!

    • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger January 4, 2023 at 5:19 am

The first cohort was $399. I have not set the cost of the 2nd yet. The waitlist does not commit you to anything, you’ll just receive the info first!
