Easing Back In

This has been an interesting start to 2023. My kids had school yesterday (it was a hurricane makeup day!) and my office was closed, which never happens. And since I start my M/W/F work schedule, I am in podcast/BLPA/etc mode today. The public schools in our area are closed through this week, and I got a ton of away messages when my newsletter went out this morning at 5:15 am. Many of my kids’ activities don’t start up again until next week, too. So this feels like a gentle, phased-in start to the year. It’s nice!

The extra long runway has been helpful from a planning perspective. I completed my Quintile 1 and month 1 goals lists yesterday and this was actually a much quicker process than it sounds, since I had just spent lots of time developing my annual goals. The hardest part is keeping the lists short enough to be manageable, but I think I did okay.

Media Rec: Glass Onion

For those who have enjoyed White Lotus and/or the movie Knives Out (from 2020 – this or Parasite was like our last movie in the theaters for a LONG time) — Glass Onion is really fun. It’s apparently the #1 movie on Netflix now so maybe everyone already knows this, but just in case – adding my voice to the choir!

I did resolve to watch more TV (and to me that extends to movies) in 2023 so if you did too, I recommend. NO SPOILERS please – we actually have like 30 minutes left to watch! But it’s been great so far and super engaging (and I can’t figure it out!).

We have a winner! There were 41 comments on yesterday’s post, so I used the google random # generator:

I had SUCH high hopes for Glass Onion because I loved, loved, loved Knives Out and everyone has been raving about Glass Onion. I can’t quite put my finger on why (and I WON’T give spoilers), but I felt a lot more “meh” about this movie. It was entertaining and there were a few surprises, but I definitely preferred the first in this “series.” That said, I thought Daniel Craig was phenomenal (as usual).

My issue with it is that I figured it out right away (didn’t see all the twists, but did see the first clue) – and that’s quite unusual for me!! So that made it less fun, and maybe for also other reasons that I can’t put my finger on, I also preferred Knives Out and was sort of ‘meh’ about Glass Onion. (but Daniel Craig as Southern? Just no. Should have left him British!!) But yes, entertaining all the same!!!

        Haha I love the fake southern . . .

The fake southern accent was a little annoying, but I was able to get past it. OMG though the last 30 min were fabulous. And even if you figure it out, the witty repartee and finale were highly entertaining, at least to me.

I’m easing in as well. We flew back last night and school doesn’t start til tomorrow, so we’ve been grocery shopping, with a family coffee date, and tidying up. I got half the kitchen cupboards organised (trying a swap of the Tupperware, baking, and cereal cupboards) and we are fully unpacked with everything put away which feels good. I’ve taken tomorrow off (although need to do an hour of urgent emails) so I’ll do the school run, join the old ladies of the town for Nordic walking, and do some tidying and sorting.

I’m going to do a big library holds list tomorrow, and just get myself organised before the term starts.

Our kids had school yesterday but the adults had the day off since financial markets were closed. I love days like that – which are very very rare! My husband ended up going into the office since this is his busiest week of the month. So I had the house mostly to myself and enjoyed quietly taking down Christmas. Now we are getting yet another huge snow storm. It’s pretty but oof we have had a lot of snow. I think we had 30″ before this storm and we could get as much as 10″ today. I’m bracing myself for an early daycare closure!

I enjoyed Glass Onion! I also had to work to get past the southern accent but all in all it was fun to watch. I’m the opposite where I was back at it super early this morning to work and my husband as well but the kids still have two days off. Thankfully my son is almost 13 and they can stay home on their own. It makes it so much easier than in past when I had to worry about child care.
