Non Clinical Day: A Time-Block-Planning Kind of Day

February 7, 2023

Run. I am (again) over my illness! Yay. Hopefully this time I can stay healthy for more than 2 weeks.

Meditate. Feeling really anxious. This would probably help . . .

Record BOBW Intro/QA x 2 and submit next week’s ep for publication (two very different interview eps coming up the next couple of weeks!)

Record BLP x 1 intro + planner peace + outro

Prep + give BLPA Specialty Section: Academics. This cohort is like 1/3 professors so I am anticipating a fun session!

Interview guest for upcoming BLP – a rising star I am excited about.

Be interviewed for another podcast

There is also a fun phone date in there too and a short video to record.

Okay. That is A LOT and I now understand my own anxiety. Especially since I just finished 8 straight days of clinical work. This probably does warrant some actual time blocking. Here is a draft:

10:10 – 10:30 –> Finish prepping BLPA session

10:30 – 11:30 –> Record with Laura + submit episode

11:30 – 12:00 –> Eat!

12:00 – 1:00 –> BLPA Session

1:00 – 1:40 –> Phone chat with friend in the podcasting business – we love supporting each other + catching up periodically, so we set these dates up in advance!

1:40 – 2:00 –> Prep for interview

2:00 – 2:45 –> Be interviewed

3:00 – 3:50 –> Video work + prep for interview

4:00 – 5:30 –> Interview guest + record intro/outro + submit. If done early . . . 20 min strength? Maybe?

5:55 –> Pick A up from gymnastics. DONE.

Not sure where meditation fits in there . . . maybe now. Wish me luck!!!!

In unrelated news, I binge-read this while I was feeling under the weather:

I thought it was really nicely written and filled with valuable takeaways — important for coaches and leaders in the sports/athletics industry especially, but also for athletes + parents of athletes. Recommend!

Sounds like a full but meaningful day. Looking forward to all of the podcasts. Definitely let us know which podcast you’re being interviewed for when you’re able to!

I am listening to Lauren Fleshman’s book and agree with your assessment. Kara Goucher and Des Linden both have books coming out this spring which I’ve preordered on Audible. I love this type of running book, especially when it’s read by the author! Another favorite is Let Your Mind Run by Deena Kastor. It’s been around for several years at least but is so inspiring for all of us chasing our own goals.

Oof, I feel you on the too much to do anxiety. I spent yesterday just coding data because it wasn’t mentally taxing but it was immersive, and I found it quite soothing. It didn’t need to be done right then, but it felt better than panic spiralling and spinning my wheels. I’m off to work city tonight and think I’ll timeblock tomorrow.

I have this wonderful bonus post call day today (was only at the hospital til midnight) but instead of enjoying it, I am stressing about how I can maximize the use of this time. I’ve already done about 3h worth of work and errands today and still have a few more left. At least I went to the pool and had a nice swim. I have a meeting at 3, and then after that maybe I’ll do another hr, and then hang out with my daughter and watch tv. I have been finding that the work will always be endless, and therefore only the mindset can change. In my case that just means I have to learn to blow things off so I can focus on one thing at a time, and not stress about the stuff I can’t get to immediately. It’s easier said than done sometimes.

YES. Honestly, I am usually not that tightly scheduled on my non-clinical days. Just a lot of deadlines! That said – I’m DONE and shutting my laptop and that’s it for the day.

And I’m glad you got some hang out + pool time!!! Definitely important to take some relaxation on the days you can. D will appreciate it AND you will enjoy it and be happier and more restored so really hanging out + watching TV is the most productive thing you can do 🙂

Does this mean you are changing the start of BOBW? I have been wondering for a while when you were going to stop saying you were just “a blogger on the side”? Also if you read what it says about BOBW on ITunes, Laura still only has 4 kids and you 2!

      I need to change it!!!!
