Fall is Here Etc

October 17, 2023

I have no pictures from the Keys

But I do have a new phone, with a camera that functions. There are some on Josh’s camera, but they didn’t upload to google photos yet so I can’t see them.

I bought an iPhone 15 and while it doesn’t fit comfortably in my hand like the 12 mini, I’m hoping that is actually a FEATURE rather than a bug 🙂 Plus the camera is pretty great.

And it’s pink. So there’s that.

All that to say: pictures will return in my posts soon! And we had a nice weekend. It was hot and stormy but we did manage to enjoy a family sunset cruise where G fell asleep for the entire thing. (And where I had a mild panic attack about lightning that started up towards the end – basically my nightmare scenario, being on a small open boat in the middle of a thunderstorm! But we made it to shore safely.)

AND NOW IT IS FALL

It was honestly other-worldly walking outside this morning. Like -WAIT, it’s cooler outside than in the house!? An incredibly foreign sensation. My run was blissful and I am extremely psyched for speedwork in even cooler weather tomorrow. The high today is 70s (not 80s-90s!) and tomorrow’s low is 57!! It definitely will warm up again but perhaps the worst is over until next spring/summer. One can hope!

FALL READING

Laura and I are recording a BOBW ep on reading and in writing the notes I realized I need to update my holds list (about to finish Tom Lake). Lots of inspiration from MMD’s last “new and notable” post!

Elisabeth interviewed me! Was so much fun to answer her questions. Elisabeth thank you for having me!

Florence Adler swims forever was so good! Especially awesome if you grew up going to the Jersey shore at all…it has lots of landmarks!

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 5 (I once had a check out guy admire it like it should be in a museum, lol) to a regular sized 11, which I resisted far longer than necessary because of the bigger size, but I actually like it a lot. My 41 year old eyes find it’s much easier to read and type on.

Off topic, but I had a thought for what might make a fun Patreon topic: What radio stations are favorites in your car? For example, I usually listen to SiriusXMU or Little Steven’s Underground Garage when I’m by myself, but my kids love the Pitbull channel (which is kind of like The Bridge but for Latin/R&B music), and my husband likes Yacht Rock (shudder). I’m sure there’s a streaming equivalent, but I don’t know much about public Spotify playlists, etc.

I LOOOOVVEEE yacht rock! My husband hates it but his parents did not listen to that kind of music growing up. I’m sure that’s why I like it…nostalgia and familiarity.

We love the Apple Music Yay! Playlist. And Annabel has created an Annabel mix – Olivia Rodrigo, Rihanna, Demi Lovato, etc

I have not upgraded recently because I love my iPhone 12 mini…even though I now need readers to see it. I have small hands and I like the small size. Eventually I am sure functionality will push me to upgrade, for now I am holding out.

Ugh, frustrating about the phone issue but hooray for pink! I love doing simple things like that to give me a jolt of joy. This morning I went to make coffee and I was so happy to see my favourite mug was out of the dishwasher. Using it really does make me smile!!

Thanks for stopping by my blog…again 🙂

I read your guest post on Elisabeth’s blog- so fun. I love her guest post series.
AHHHHHHHHH. I love the first day where we dip down to the 50s. It’s our reward for making it through the summer. And running… it feels like we’ve been running with ankle weights and someone finally took them off. I have a long run tomorrow and I CAN’T WAIT!!!
Even though there was probably some other damage like you said, I’m still going with the theory that the heat and humidity here broke your old phone. It definitely felt hot enough last week to kill anything!

From your hold list, I can tell you just read Anne Bogel’s latest quick lit post! If not, you have a shocking # of holds in common with what she just highlighted. 😉

When I upgraded phones a year or 2 ago, I was worried that the larger size would bother me but it doesn’t. I hope you love your new phone. The color sounds fun!!

And hooray for cooler weather!!! That will really give you a spring in your step!

I recently moved up a size too and it was a rough transition. I highly recommend screen protectors (if you don’t already use them) since I drop it more, though I recently got a Loopy case and that has helped decrease the dropping a lot.

I’ve always been an Android user, but might make the switch to iPhone (mainly for the iMessage functionality with my friends – definitely caving to some peer pressure!). One major thing holding me back though is my love of Google photos! Do you still use it with your iPhones?

yep 🙂 (well, josh has an android but my iPhone pix + videos upload automatically to google photos!)

Thanks – so interesting because we’re likely going to be a house divided as well 🙂
