C = 10!

February 20, 2024

10 FACTS ABOUT C

In honor of this day!

#10: He was born ON HIS DUE DATE (birth story)! I guess that’s also sort of a fact about me, but how cool is that? Both girls were 2 days late, so his timeliness was much appreciated.

#9: He is an extremely resilient kid when it comes to illness/injury. We have footage of him completely wiping out on a skateboard and then popping up to say happily “I’M OKAY!”

#8: His eyes are a very cool green/brown mix, especially the left one and especially in the sun!

#7: He tolerates reading (though seems to be enjoying it more, especially graphic novels) and seems to enjoy math.

#6: His sense of direction is FAR better than mine and I always ask him where to park for each soccer field because I have no clue and can’t keep them straight. (To be clear, I am extremely NOTABLY bad at directions but he is at least average if not better!)

#5: He LOOOOVES video games and seems to be (well, from what I can tell . . .) good at them. His current fave is probably Rocket League, a “high-powered hybrid of arcade-style soccer and vehicular mayhem!” Yep. This fits.

#4: He got braces at age 9 (round #1 of 2). All of our kids are EARLY tooth shedders.

#3: He is able to follow more complex movie plots that lose me after 15 minutes. He and Josh enjoy watching action movies together.

#2: He has amazing intuition about sports — both as a spectator and player. The one comment people consistently make about his playing (soccer in particular, but basketball too) is that he understands where he needs to be in the game, and also how to effectively spend his energy. This sounds trivial but it’s much more difficult than it sounds. He really enjoys both watching and playing soccer, basketball, and lacrosse (he’s done less of that but he keeps asking for more). He also picked up skiing very quickly and has zero fear when it comes to any of these activities.

#1: He is extremely sweet and kind. This can be less obvious because . . . he can also act crazy and gets very amped up. But he is generous, caring, and often thinks of his siblings.

(Additional note: For some reason, I always fantasized about when my kids would be 6, 10, and 12!!! It sounded like a new era and a theoretically golden age of parenting/family life. There are definitely some different challenges but as a whole I really REALLY do enjoy this phase. A will be 12 in ~6 weeks and I guess we will see what those ages all together are actually like!)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAMERON!! I will be bringing some treats into his classroom today, then taking him to the orthodontist (lol but he is not sad to miss a bit of school) and then back to school so he can play in a bball game! His party is on Sunday.

Happy birthday C!! One of my [local] friend’s son is really into lacrosse. Like he started last year, seems to be a natural, and is now on a travel team. They are quickly learning the lacrosse scene here. I’m happy to put you in touch with her.

Aww happy birthday to C! As a math major and lover of numbers, his ability to anticipate where he needs to be on the field makes me think he will continue to be drawn to math. Because in math you are kind of always thinking a few steps ahead and are very solution-focused…. That’s not to say that those who aren’t as drawn to math don’t think like that. But I think it is extra prevalent for those who have strong abilities in math. Now, this did not play out in me being good at sports AT ALL! Ha.

You do seem to be in a really sweet spot of parenting. The sweet spot of parenting for me will begin when I don’t have a toddler in the house. Lol. Toddlers are THE HARDEST stage for me by far, at least in my short 6 year tenure as a parent. But I think you feel the same way about toddlers!

I bet you will love this stage, too 🙂

Happy birthday to C! My 9yo son (a fellow Duke fan as well!) is very similar with basketball IQ/intuition, and I think it’s at least somewhat related to his affinity for math.

My almost 20 year old daughter has broken up with her boyfriend of 2.5 years today, cried a bucket of tears, got back together and then decided on some kind of pause in their relationship all within 8 stressful hours. I am a limp rag of exhausted motherhood. It doesn’t get easier, just different!

I’d *still* rather deal with that than chase around toddlers and pump milk, but yes – there are always challenges!! That does sound INSANELY stressful!!

Happy Birthday C!!! As a year round hockey mom, I didn’t really enjoy the lacrosse days – too sunny and hot! Enjoy!

Happy Birthday Cameron!!! So, he was born on his due date and both girls were only two days late? I would say that’s pretty good- even back then you were good at organizing things!
Yes, you’re in a nice age of parenting. Of course there’s challenges at every age… teenager girls are, ahem, difficult. I do miss the toddler days sometimes, but overall it’s a relief to be done with that part of it.
I hope it’s a happy day, and good luck with the upcoming party!

The fact that my earliest baby was 40 weeks 0 days cracks me up but yes – it worked out pretty well! Was able to work until the very end with all of them and tie up loose ends!
