5 on a Friday: Whew!

May 16, 2024

(hahah, I know it’s still Thursday. But I hit ‘publish’ early. Ahh well, this will all still be here tomorrow!)

1- It has been A Week, as previously noted. And not for any specific reason, really. I do feel a bit better after revising my expectations for the rest of the month. AND, next week I am off to Michigan for a few days! Cannot wait.

If this below forecast comes true, I will be in actual heaven. (I can still wear shorts, right? Shorts + tech long sleeve layered over tank? I have a really old one I could just ditch mid-race if needed.)

I guess (know) it’s too early to plan. But wow. I have hope now! So exciting. TAPER seems to be happening but honesty it’s so similar to what I was running the last few weeks (and it is SO BLAZING HOT all of the sudden) I haven’t really noticed.

2- The Summer Reading Guide is OUT!! I have a few books from the library right now (Still Life by Louise Penny, Reign from the American Royals series, plus The Sicilian Inheritance which I bought) but I’m trying to decide if I want to just dive head first into the Modern Mrs. Darcy summer reading list instead. In past years, I have gotten through a nice chunk of Anne’s recommended titles – one year something like 15!? LOTS of this year’s books look enticing to me! You can purchase her full guide here or check out her minimalist guide for free! (You can also get access by joining her book club or Patreon!)

3- BLAZERS. I don’t really think it’s blazer shopping season but I kind of want one anyway. (I also want the summer Marine Layer catalog in its entirety, those designers GET ME.) I loved the Real Life Style comprehensive blazer post here. Considering one of the J. Crew or Nic + Zoe options.

4- I received a few requests to share the EC layout I raved about in a prior episode! Here it is:

There is also a column on the left of Monday to list tasks for the week – next time I’ll include that too, this time I was just kind of playing!
Organization here is hard landscape events on the top box, tasks in the middle, kid stuff in row 3, and dinners/workouts in the bottom shaded portion.

This is the vertical weekly version of their weekly LifePlanner. I am not an affiliate but I do have a link that gives me a small commission if used – so feel free to use this if you’d like!

5- WEEKEND OUTLOOK:

  • Josh call
  • LAST long run (easy pace; will try to avoid getting psyched out by the fact that running 9 minute pace in current conditions feels like I am racing)
  • Tennis / gymnastics
  • Probably some pool time
  • No soccer games!
  • C just got his braces off so he probably wants to eat Starburst all weekend . . .

G is taking a break from piano and I am . . . rather excited to have an uninterrupted Saturday afternoon to just chill. My goal is a NAP-AND-READING-heavy weekend.

Wow that race weather looks amazing! You should for sure wear shorts. You will be cold at the start but once you warm up, it will feel 20 degrees warmer and you will be glad to be in shorts. I would race in shorts and tank top with a throw away shirt on top but I am a midwesterner so my concept of cold is very different!! It’s nice that it won’t be super sunny either. Sounds like ideal race conditions so I hope that forecast holds!! Enjoy your last long run! It’s going to feel sooooo much easier to run in cooler, less humid temps!

This week felt like a lot as I traveled to Dallas M-W and then ubered to a baseball diamond when I got in last night so I could watch the toddler while my husband helped with t ball. And work is just so freaking busy so I feel like my head is spinning. But it’s almost the weekend and we have a date night on Sat to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary that is on Sunday. Yours must be soon, too! And your bday!!

I have been adding a third layer a lot recently. Not always a blazer but other types of jackets like this one which I just got https://ba-sh.com/us/p/jacket-meredith-ecru-3664784482963.html?_gl=1*hk85s1*_up*MQ..&gclid=Cj0KCQjwgJyyBhCGARIsAK8LVLM4HfuAxh6F8NlfkhEvmL_b_ZZi4I1Nl2ZHy-5npMhfHu2O_pLGH_saAgZgEALw_wcB or a jacket-like cardigan like this one which I wore at BLP Live https://www.sezane.com/us/product/betty-cardigan/hazelnut#size-XXS I definitely feel more polished with the extra layer.

I LOOOOOVE that meredith jacket. LOVE.

      • Reply Gillian May 17, 2024 at 5:19 pm

The best part is the it fits me well without any alteration despite the fact that I am petite and the jacket technically is not. Hooray! for European sizing.

I hope the weather holds out for you! I have the race on my calendar and I’m excited for you. Enjoy the chill weekend 🙂

Awww I can’t believe it made your calendar! I am honored!!

I ran (much shorter distance, haha) in almost these exact conditions today. Definitely shorts! I had on a thicker long sleeved top and a vest and I was hot, so thin long sleeve sounds just right.

I love the JCrew going out blazer – I used to think I didn’t like blazers but I have this one in all three of their basic colors (navy, grey, black) plus a summer linen and a winter check. It’s so comfortable and instantly pulls your look together.

    • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger May 18, 2024 at 5:15 am

Yes that is the one I was looking at!! Not a bad price point either!

I have a linen blazer, no buttons or collar, and I love it! In a much, much cooler climate but I think it would work well in a warmer climate with a sleeveless top underneath.

Fingers crossed for the cool weather to continue. We’ve had some nicer weather here, but of course the day I planned to get all the washing on the line, I smell a bit of rain in the air.

I’ve got a solo weekend, so I’ve slept in til 8 and am looking forward to tackling projects. But I am extroverted, and suspect I’ll be lonely by mid-afternoon so will go to the library and the cafe, and chat up strangers. I’m also going to try my first spin class on Sunday, which… will I die? I cycle a lot, but at a very sedate pace…

You won’t die!! Remember you get to control the effort level. Keep the easy/recovery portions nice and easy!!

YES! Your race weather looks amazing. I think your wardrobe choices sound perfect. It will probably be a little chilly at the start (omg I’m envious) but if does get into the 60s you’ll probably want to ditch the long sleeve. I think this is going to be an incredible race for you.
I hope your last long run goes well and that you have a lovely afternoon reading and napping!!!

Oh and one more thing- I got the minimalist MMD reading list and it looks so good! I’ll definitely be reading some of those books.

i’d probably have a throwaway sweatshirt to wear until just before the start and then maybe a thin pair of gloves to wear for the first few miles that i’d also be ok with throwing away (but my hands are often cold below 50 degrees). but definitely shorts and tank weather for the race itself.
