Impromptu Adventure

We (me, Annabel, Genevieve — offered to all 3 kids but C wasn’t interested!) did end up going to the Gold Over America Tour (GOAT) last night! It was such a weird experience to decide to go and buy tickets just a few hours before an event like that, but it worked out well (aside from paying inflated Seat Geek prices, ahh well – there is SOME price to spontaneity!).

The arena was in Sunrise which is actually really easy for us (20 min drive) so there was no good reason NOT to go — I’m glad we went for it!

Simone Biles flying in the middle!

Both girls had a blast (Annabel said it was more fun than Olivia Rodrigo!?!) and I found it pretty thrilling as well, especially after watching so much gymnastics over the summer! From this year’s women’s team, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera were there, plus alternate Jocelyn Roberson; the men were amazing as well including bronze winners Frederick Richard, Paul Juda, and Brody Malone. If you loved watching the Olympic gymnastics and this show comes to your area I highly recommend! My favorite part was the Barbie tribute (followed by an excellent rendition of “I’m Just Ken” from the men. Ha!).

Today

Honestly just savoring life feeling normal!!!! I had a great long run — it was 74-77F and low 80% humidity and it absolutely felt like fall. Just a few degrees and humidity percentage points makes such an immense difference and I really had a blast doing easy-ish miles (14, probably the shortest long run until it’s time to taper!) in these conditions.

G is now at gymnastics and the only other things on the agenda are:

  • YNAB audit/balancing (I haven’t done September yet, sadly!)
  • Clean bathrooms. I usually outsource this but we had cancellations the last 2 weeks and we have guests coming over soooooo it’s going to be time to dive in.
  • Get stuff for break fast. (We don’t really do anything for this holiday, but we DO host the traditional breakfast-type meal that ends it! In whirlwind that was this hurricane week, I did not preorder bagels so let’s hope there are some still up for grabs in South Florida today . . .)

C has a soccer game but I think Josh will take him while I do the above.

MAYYYYYYBE I can fit in an Emily in Paris ep too. Just 8 more and I’ll be caught up . . .

Entertainment on Today’s Run:

STATIONERY PEOPLE: I loved listening to The Stationery Cafe’s Techo Kaigi ep all about their planner plans (yes it’s a thing) for next year! It includes some discussion of the issues with Hobonichi this year (inconsistent paper, etc). (Note: I personally found that the products I received in the launch were okay, but there is a whole discussion of this on Reddit and seems to especially be impacting the 5-year products for 2025-29)

7 WEEKS SCREEN FREE: I couldn’t help but think about how unrealistic/privileged it was for this guy to be able to spend 7 weeks screen free (I cannot imagine a scenario where I could responsibly do that!? in work OR life?!), but I guess he did acknowledge that and it was interesting to think about!

Yep, I bet that GOAT tour was expensive, but worth it. Very glad you decided to go!
I loved the weather this morning!!! I could really feel a difference. And it looks like a nice week coming up.
I hope you can find bagels! Our favorite bagel place is Way Beyond Bagels, but it’s even north of us so it would be too much of a schlep for you. We get them for special occasions.

They are far from me!! My fave is Brooklyn Water Bagels (~20 min away from me) but I didn’t plan it this time!! Next year . We ended up getting some bake-from-frozen NY bagels (Bagelista) and they were really good!

Oh the GOAT tour looks so fun! Good for you for doing that! I see they were in Baltimore last week, but that would have been too far on a school night anyway. Maybe they will televise it in some fashion for the rest of us!

Thank you for the reminder about the Gold Over America Tour–I just bought tickets for our family to go Friday in Austin! We loved watching the Olympics, and it will be so fun to experience this!
