Magical Night: Taylor Swift in Miami 10.20.24

October 22, 2024

It’s 2 days later and my head is still filled with the music and images from the show.

Annabel and I saw Taylor Swift in Miami on Sunday night and it was one of the most fun and special nights of my life.

I bought the tickets last December. I failed to get them through Ticketmaster (ie, at a reasonable price) and I just couldn’t stop thinking about going. One day I told Josh I wanted to make this splurge and he was okay with it; I think I felt more comfortable with it because I had booked a speaking engagement that would cover some of the cost. I don’t think he was thrilled, but he understood it meant a lot to me and gave me the okay. (Of note, this is not a gatekeeping thing — we share all $ and he would definitely also be running a similar level expense for himself by me!).

I took just A because honestly she’s the only other real fan in our household! She knows many of the songs by heart (with better lyric accuracy than me) and has enjoyed her music for years now. Josh doesn’t dislike Taylor, but I don’t think she’s one of his favorites. Cameron states she is “overrated” (disagree, but he’s entitled to his opinion!). G does like her music but she’s not even 7 and I knew this was going to be a loooooong concert. So, A was the best choice and she received the news that we were going as part of her 12th birthday present last April (though I think she found out JUST before)!

I’m so glad I got to have this experience with her and that we will have this shared memory forever. We had an absolute blast. Logistically, things were a lot easier than I expected! I had other friends attend Friday/Saturday so I was able to get some advice (clear bags only! arrive early! skip the merch line!) which did help. Since the stadium is northwest of Miami and we LIVE northwest of Miami, it was just a 20 minute drive — not even 20 minutes on highways, just local roads. Parking (which I bought with the tickets for a fairly reasonable amount) was easy and actually pretty close to the stadium, especially since we arrived on the early side. We had plenty of time to get dinner, meet up with my colleague (one of the other peds endos in my group went with her sister) and generally relax before the show.

The opener was Gracie Abrams and I have heard a few of her songs but don’t know her music well. The acoustics in her set were not the best (loud, and a bit hard to hear her vocals), but I had been warned about that ahead of time so knowing that Taylor would sound better sound-wise was nice to know.

At 7:58 exactly Taylor came on after a countdown and honestly the next 3.25 hours just FLEW BY. We danced, we sang, we cried (maybe just I cried), and generally had the best time.

Some pix (only a small selection were approved but hey, I’m happy to have some to share!)

my outfit: skirt from Spirit Halloween and tee from the Target kids’ section. I was super comfortable and seemed to fit the aesthetic! A’s super cute dress is from Target, and a very kind concertgoer provided the “13” tattoo!

Taylor was resplendent. Her outfits was amazing, her energy was off the charts, and she was just captivating. Our seats were decent (100 level, 20 rows back) — close enough to see well but we didn’t get rained on (the floor people did but they did not seem to mind one bit!).

everyone got a light-up bracelet and the colors and lights coordinated with each song! Had never seen that before and it was so cool.
A took this one, love.

It’s hard to pick a favorite song from the show . . . so I’ll list a few. LOVED “The Man” in the opening set, the entire 1989 set (A’s favorite album), Willow (so perfectly witchy!), FLORIDA!!! (with Florence of Florence and the Machine!), Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me, I Can Do It With A Broken Heart (this was like . . . a theatrical performance!), and OMG the finale with Karma was just joyous. But really there were no dull moments.

So, so glad we went. Core memory and one I will cherish.

(The logistics at the end were actually pretty easy too — we stayed until the end but got out pretty quickly afterwards and were home around midnight!).

So glad you had an absolute blast! I 100% concur on worthy of the splurge and core memory for you both together. I also loved Willow – so much so that was my Halloween costume last year. After the show I became so much more obsessed and impressed with her amazing skills. Semi-jealous of seeing TTPD section.

Taking my girls to her Houston show last year was a (HUGE) splurge I will never ever regret or forget. Best thing I’ve ever done with money. We were high from the love, energy, and spectacle of that concert for weeks after. So glad you and A got to experience it!

I feel super lucky about our post-concert experience – not sure why it ended up being so easy to get out of the lot, but I’ll take it!!!

Such a lovely shared memory! I’m really looking forward to our concert in few weeks. Definitely will do this more when our favorite single comes near by.

I don’t care for Taylor Swift (although I also don’t dislike her or anything) but I LOVE that you did this for yourself and A. What an amazing, unforgettable experience!!

I have a friend who took her daughter on Friday night and she said, “I just keep thinking about it and smiling!” Sounds amazing ๐Ÿ™‚

This is amazing! I actually teared up at the photo of you and your daughter, and the thought that you and she shared this incredible experience together. And, it’s nice to know that all the hype around TS is deserved- she really ISN’T overrated.
I’m cringing a little, thinking how much it must have cost, but you know what- this is what money is FOR. A once in a lifetime experience that you’ll remember forever is worth every penny.

This is amazing, Sarah! So amazing that you inspired me to buy last minute tickets to her concert in Indy next week for an absurd amount of money. We have had a tough couple of months in our family (with no end in sight, unfortunately) and this feels like a YOLO opportunity. My ten year old is going to lose her mind. Thanks for sharing how magical this was! Life is brutal and beautiful, and itโ€™s so good to find these moments of pure joy.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh Iโ€™m so excited for you!! You will not regret it. Enjoy it!!!!!

  • Reply Irene October 23, 2024 at 7:25 pm

Oh man!!!! I havenโ€™t been able to bring myself to pay for tickets (nothing near us so it would be travel plus inflated prices) but I think I am going to regret never making it. My 9 year old is a huge swifty and would love it.

So glad you were able to have this memory! Iโ€™d love to go, but itโ€™s so unlikely at this point.

  • Reply Stephany October 27, 2024 at 9:51 pm

Yessss! I am so glad it was such a magical night – that’s the best way to describe this show. I still get chills when I remember Karma closing the show. Such a perfect way to end it! And AH, you got to listen to TTPD songs. Jealous!!

I’m so glad you got to experience this with A! I took my 2 daughters to see Taylor in Cincinnati last year and it was the best! We will always remember it!
