WHAT a weird training cycle!
In training for my May race, the preparation felt endless. And with this training cycle it felt . . . almost absent? I know I ran some decent mileage and a good number of 18-20 mile runs but somehow it just didn’t feel the same. I have no idea what that will mean in the end, but not going to lie: I’m glad it’s (almost) over!

Here was last week:
M: SICK. Did not run.
T: Still sick. Did not run.
W: Felt a lot better! 8 mi @ 9:05/mi. Thrilled to be out there while the weather remained gorgeous, 50s temps.
R: 20 minutes @ MP run (7.5 mi total; 20 min warmup, 20 min marathon pace, 20 min cooldown). This felt like a bit of a test. I set up my workout in a way (not on purpose) where I couldn’t see splits and tried to run by feel. My MP miles were 7:52 and 7:53 respectively which is NOTTTTTTT going to be my MP. But it was encouraging. (I WILL be using my watch on race day, and aiming for ~8:15-8:20ish).
F: Easy run 7.5 mi @ 9:14/mi pace. (This did feel easy whereas during the summer this pace is decidedly NOT easy)
S: Final “LR” – 12 mi @ 8:51/mi. This was an effort I would say that was between super easy + MP and my splits were super super steady. Happy with it!
Total: 34 mi. Would have been low 40s if not sick but . . . I was sick!
We will see what this more extreme taper does for me next week, I guess. The weather for race day is looking decent!

Honestly a little cooler would be even better, but this is similar to Bayshore (Bayshore was weird, started ~61F, dipped to high 50s, and ended low 60s).
PS: San is running her first marathon today!! She will rock it I am SURE. Excited to find out what she will run next because I am confident this will not be her last.
ALSO: JOSH IS 50!!!!!!!!!!!!
We interrupt this training log to bring you the news that my husband is now half a century old!!! So excited to celebrate with him tonight. He will get a dedicated post next week which will include pix of our celebration. ♥️♥️♥️♥️ Here’s to another 50 (or more!!!!). AND we will get to enjoy a little bday getaway during this marathon adventure we have coming up! Cannot wait.

Happy 50th to Josh! I love that he’s going to the final 4 as a gift. What an epic experience that will be for him! Enjoy the celebration tonight!
I’ve been tracking San and she is running such a strong race. I knew she would since she had a great training cycle! Can’t wait to see how she does – I expect sub-4.
Aw, Happy Birthday to Josh! I can say that the 50s decade is a good one. And… the weather for your marathon looks GOOD! yes, it could be a little cooler- but this is cool enough that it won’t screw you up. I’m excited for you!
Thank you so much for the shoutout and for believing in me, Sarah. It seems like we’re very similar in many ways and I appreciate your insights and support.
Happy birthday to Josh! That’s a huge milestone!
