Update, Lots of Waiting

March 4, 2025

Did not want to leave anyone worried! I am still in the hospital but no further codes or crazy rhythms have occurred. Basically they are still working on diagnosis (I have turned out to be not the most straightforward case apparently; some imaging findings need more interpretation) and I will be getting a cath EP study done on Thursday, basically to learn more about the arrhythmia and to see if anything can be ablated.

Trying not to think too far ahead since there is lots of uncertainty and oh my goodness I am so grateful to the outpouring of love and support and help from family and friends.

I am out of the CCU and in a telemetry floor and I even got to SHOWER today, which was delightful (I cannot tell you how gross I felt – remember I was brought in directly from the race!).

Tomorrow will be a (hopefully) very uneventful day so if you have recs for something to binge watch please let me know!!!

for posterity I guess

PS: After watching Apple Cider Vinegar it feels sooooo weird posting medical updates! I promise I am not making mine up and that I will not recommend juice and coffee enemas as treatment . . .

Sending good wishes for the cath tomorrow! Favorite things to watch – Only murders in the building (4 seasons), The Lionness (2 seasons), Bridgerton, Bad Sisters – I think the 2nd season is out already.

cath is thurs! I forgot about Bad Sisters S2 – I think I saw one ep then forgot. I think I’ll watch that!

Oh my gosh! Thanks for the update. When I saw your first post after the race I was stunned. What a difficult and scary thing to experience! Let’s see Abbott Elementary was good, as is Hart of Dixie which is actually fairly old but on Amazon prime. I am also currently watching the Middle on Amazon prime.

    • Reply Katie March 5, 2025 at 11:07 am

I second Hart of Dixie, it’s certainly a rom-com but pretty hilarious and a GREAT ‘take your mind off things’ watch! Plus main character is a doctor! If you like hockey Shoresy on Hulu is good. I also just finished binging a ton of 80s-early 2000s movies. I didn’t realize how life giving watching Say Anything, Breakfast Club and stuff like Legally Blonde would be during my two week flu stint! Made me feel old though! lol Also if you want something more sci-fi and fast paced Discovery of Witches is SO good! (Hulu I believe?)

I am thinking of you! I am in the middle of Hacks and enjoying it! And Amy Schumer’s new movie on Netflix called Kinda Pregnant was light and funny!

  • Reply Marianne March 4, 2025 at 9:17 pm

Glad you’re doing ok, and yay for a shower! I just finished watching Outer Banks, which was recommended by my teenage daughter, and one of the few things we both enjoy! Also recently found a show on Peacock called Emerald City based off the Wizard of Oz, but more adulty, which I’m enjoying.

I don’t know if you like True Crime, but the new Netflix documentary about Gabby Petito was very well done. It is a sad frustrating story but it was good to hear how Gabbys family is honoring her memory today (and simultaneously disgusting to see how the Landry family handled the whole thing).

I don’t watch much TV but if I think of anything else I’ll share.

Good luck with the cath and thank you for keeping us all updated!!

glad to see that you’ve kept your sense of humor and hopefulness.

Sending you the best after such a scary experience! Definitely Running Point aka new Mindy Kaling produced show as I think you’ll love it.

      Second this!

  • Reply Noemi March 4, 2025 at 9:32 pm

So glad you’re doing better and there isn’t anything obviously very wrong. I’m sorry I didn’t comment on the announcement post – I have been thinking of you a ton! Fingers crossed that you get conclusively good news soon!

I’ve been thinking of you but didn’t want to bug you so thank you for the update! I hope you get some answers soon. I bet that shower felt amazing!!

I can’t remember if you’ve watched Younger but I loved that show! I also like Sweet Magnolia on Netflix – it’s more PG but something I enjoy. And great British baking show is delightful, esp the older seasons!!

Sending you so much light and love!!

watch something funny! AP Biology is a good show. It must be surreal being the patient. I hope tomorrow is a boring day :).

  • Reply Birchwood Pie March 4, 2025 at 9:48 pm

No news is good news! For now we’ll take the shower and the next step will be to get you home to your family <3

  • Reply Linda M March 4, 2025 at 10:12 pm

I hope the kids have been able to visit you. I imagine it’s scary for them having mom in the hospital.

  • Reply Lani Inlander March 4, 2025 at 11:01 pm

Thank gosh for a shower! I highly recommend getting some lovely smelling lotion you can put on your hands and arms to feel a bit more human. Thinking of you!!!!

  • Reply LVL1992 March 4, 2025 at 11:34 pm

Have you watched Shrinking on Max yet? So glad to hear you are doing well!

  • Reply Celeste March 4, 2025 at 11:46 pm

Just a frequent reader and listener of BoBW here… Glad you are doing all right and hope you get some answers soon! Please take it easy while you recover even though I’m sure it won’t be easy.

Love both Ted Lasso (Apple TV) and Only Murders in the Building (Hulu)! Also I’m always up for rewatching Frasier and/or Gilmore Girls.

So, so happy to see this update. I’m glad they are keeping you until they get some clarity on what’s going on. I hope the waiting goes by uneventfully and not too painfully for you. Sending so many good wishes your way (and prayers). Lots of love, too!

  • Reply Brooke March 5, 2025 at 1:30 am

High Potential is my new favorite show this season (on Hulu). Wishing you answers soon!

  • Reply Sesb March 5, 2025 at 2:32 am

I keep thinking about how lucky you are this happened during a race rather than a training run. For shows, how about Killing Eve, The Chair, Handmaids Tale, Call the Midwife. Good luck with your cath!

  • Reply Sophie March 5, 2025 at 5:43 am

Thank you for the update! Since you loved Apple Cider Vinegar, would recommend a couple of docos on Belle Gibson- there’s a 2 parter on Netflix and a special on YouTube: https://youtu.be/fahOX8VBXCc?si=TSX_lKsLQSFjdHuJ
I grew up in Melbourne so this was big news at the time.

Oh man… I can’t imagine having to sit around in my post-race sweat for days. Ick! Glad you got that shower! I saw someone mention it earlier, but Abbot Elementary is so so so good (the first few episodes are a little slow, but give it time). Never Have I Ever, Wednesday, The Man on the Inside (comedy where Ted Danson goes undercover in a nursing home), Only Murders in the Building, Nate Bargatze standup on Netflix are others I’ve enjoyed in the past few years. Hope that everything goes smoothly and you have boring relaxing time and not just anxious waiting time.

  • Reply Emily March 5, 2025 at 6:43 am

Glad to hear the update – and that you got a shower! Am sure that felt great. Fingers crossed all the testing goes well and you’ll be out soon.

  • Reply LN March 5, 2025 at 6:53 am

Oh goodness, I’m glad they are looking after you and that you got the medical attention right away.

It might be weird to watch something sports related but I really liked the docu-series Break Point (tennis) and Sprint (Olympic track) on Netflix. I think there are 2 seasons of each at least, and they follow various athletes on their way to matches/competitions and so on.

  • Reply Iris March 5, 2025 at 7:27 am

I rarely comment, but thinking of you Sarah and hope you get answers soon!

  • Reply Suzanne March 5, 2025 at 7:27 am

Hooray for showers and being out of the CCU! Hoping the tests help identify the issue (and that it’s easily solvable).

My husband and I have been watching What We Do in the Shadows, which is super weird/absurd but also hilarious.

  • Reply Nicole MacPherson March 5, 2025 at 8:00 am

That shower must have felt great! I hope you get some answers soon.

  • Reply Caryn Hart March 5, 2025 at 9:01 am

In the “olden” days, all you could get were a few usually bad network tv programs to watch while stuck in the hospital, so at least there is that improvement 😀! Annoying as it is for you, Sarah, we are happy you are getting such good care in the hospital.

    Love, Mom and Dad

    • Reply Ali March 5, 2025 at 1:38 pm

So glad you are okay! And glad you got to shower…that would’ve been a big deal for me too! Have you seen succession? So good!

Hope tomorrow goes smoothly and they get to the bottom of this!!

  • Reply Kaethe March 5, 2025 at 9:25 am

So glad to hear this update! I’m sorry you don’t have a clear diagnosis yet but I hope it helps you to know that your community of readers and listeners are sending you their support. Praying for good news for you soon!

  • Reply Sarah March 5, 2025 at 9:37 am

Yay for showers and no more arrhythmias! Also recommending Running Point – Mindy Kaling is a genius and Kate Hudson is so funny.

Go Sarah go….sending restful vibes and glad you got a shower 🙂 “White Lotus” season 3 is amazing…highly recommend and very distracting/absorbing!

  • Reply Raquel March 5, 2025 at 5:47 pm

Sarah, I’m happy to learn you are doing well despite the wait. I guess it is better to get thoroughly checked before going home. As for recommendations, I read once you watched Crash Landing on You, so my recommendation is also a Korean series: The Trauma Code (maybe not the most appropriate given you are trying to get your mind off hospitals, but it is really funny and good). Another Korean one I really enjoyed was Move to Heaven. Wishing you all the best.

  • Reply Sarah March 5, 2025 at 6:39 pm

AP Bio is a fun and easy series to watch

  • Reply San March 5, 2025 at 11:28 pm

I am happy to hear you’re doing ok although you still don’t know what exactly has been happening to you… but seeing you blog and taking showers is a good sign. I hope you get some answers soon!

  • Reply Krista March 6, 2025 at 11:41 am

I’m so glad you’re doing well! I hope you get some answers. I had an episode of afib with rapid ventricular response about a year ago and the worst part has been not knowing what triggered it or if (and when) it might happen again. Since it was just the one time (that I know of) an ablation isn’t recommended, but the whole thing produced a lot of anxiety. I’ll be thinking of you and hoping for a clear path forward!

  • Reply Stephany March 7, 2025 at 11:14 am

Oh gosh, I didn’t even THINK of being in that post-race ickiness. That shower must have been one of the best of your life! Thinking of you and hope things trend in the right direction. <3
