Weekend Report: Cozy Thunderstorm Edition

July 12, 2025

Nice Chill Weekend

We have very little going on this weekend! I am actually taking call next weekend (did someone a favor by making a requested swap that will also benefit me greatly, everyone wins!). SOOOO this weekend I am leaning into the chill. I slept in (until 7:30), got a bit of podcast work done (CHECK), did my upper body workout midmorning (various kids played outside), dealt with some accumulated snail mail, and honestly, that is about it.

The kids are packed for week one of three of their Monday-to-Friday camp*. We are seeing family tomorrow, but that is the extent of our planned activity. I think we will all go see Elio later today (followed by sushi, because one of the places we like is near the theater). It’s actively thundering right now now and I have finished everything on my not-very-ambitious list so I plan to spend the next couple of hours snuggled up with my book club cowboy romance. SUMMER HYGGE am I right?

*A has decided she doesn’t want to miss most of gymnastics so there will be some midweek shutting, but it shouldn’t be too bad.

DECLUTTERING

So, about that. I did do a decent job with my desk area/stationery (and am enjoying the 2482 pens in my collection much more as a result!). But I stalled out on the kids’ rooms, other than gathering a whole bunch of clothes for my niece (we brought them to Philadelphia in our suitcases!). THEN YESTERDAY I arrived home to an entirely organized/decluttered kitchen, hallway closet, kids’ bathroom, and (!!) G’s room. Our nanny did this and I have no idea how so much was accomplished in that time frame, but I am incredibly impressed AND grateful.

example of a highly organized cabinet. Side note: I am very pro store with lids on because we almost always USE them with lids!

(She has a very easy few weeks coming up with the kids in camp so I think she really wanted to do something nice!).

Anyway, so now I feel even MORE motivated to take charge of the areas she didn’t do, and have hope for feeling more organized overall by the year’s end! Josh even wants to tackle the garage which is . . . a whole thing, but it’s a finite space and we’ve only lived here three years so it SHOULD be doable, right!?

Happy weekend.

NOTE: If you are in a place where you are able to help and are looking for an easy way to contribute to those who have suffered losses in the tragic TX floods last week, consider GiveDirectlyLaura had mentioned it and I decided to donate there, too. (Good rating on Charity Navigator, and I like that their mission is to provide cash directly to those in need. Obviously, neither of us have any affiliation with these organizations, just wanted to share.)

Done and dusted was fun! Exactly what I was expecting and requiring no cognitive energy whatsoever, which was what I needed at the time. Enjoy!

Ahhh the look of an organized space is so pleasing! We store our lids separately but we don’t have the space to store them with them on. I switched to glass a few years ago so got rid of lots of the plastic containers I used previously that were sometimes missing lids which was very annoying.

Hopefully by taking call now, your fall will be less packed with call!!

I love a good declutter! I feel like I am constantly getting rid of stuff though and it just…multiplies? Looking forward to your review of Elio!

Elio was . . . just okay in my opinion! Fun fam activity but not an amazing movie.
