I’m in the “burn it all down” time of the month, SIGH!
Maybe this is good on occasion, because I actually think sometimes I just go with the status quo for longer than is actually necessary.
I tend to add, without subtracting.
I stick to the same habits (or, attempt to).
I keep striving for the same goals — and in some cases, I know at some point I need to change my approach (which I have, successfully, with prior goals like estate planning and book writing!). Things won’t just ‘happen’ if they haven’t happened before, just by me putting them on a list. I know this!
I mean, I even wrote a book about it. Or a chapter of said book.
But I find myself asking: if I could build my life (or, just my work life) from scratch, would it have all of the same components? It’s not actual planning but an interesting thought experiment.

In other news, I’ve been to pilates (@ Club Pilates) twice now (well 3x, if you count the intro)!! Both early classes. The vibe is very calm in there and people are nice. It’s not a grunting/sweating kind of workout, but I did have some (mild) soreness a day or so after my first class. The classes are leveled and as a beginner I’m in Level 1, so I’m sure it can get a whole lot more challenging.
I can’t tell yet if this is going to be my new thing or not, but I don’t dislike it! (I am committed to my membership for at least 3 months so by mid-Nov, I’ll reassess).

Hi Sarah! Weird question, but what pen are you using for these quotes in your planner? It looks nice!

I really considered the “burn it down” question because of uncertainty with federal funding this spring. I literally put everything on the table – what if I went back to the classroom? What if I worked the front desk at a dental office? Would I want a university job? If so, faculty or staff? Should we move? Basically, I ended up deciding that there are plenty of options that I COULD be satisfied with, but none that I prefer to my current reality, so I will continue doing what I’m doing for as long as I can!
Look up Red School, it’s about the menstrual phases and how they support our lives. What you’re describing is the exact purpose of the “Autumn” phase. Once I understood the phases, my relationship with my cycle improved SO MUCH.
Love the idea of designing from scratch. We have so much more freedom than we realize. I love the quote “We’re all living in cages with the door wide open.” Makes me really think about the cages we put ourselves in – that I put myself in. Have you read anything by Gary John Bishop? Kind of a trip. That plus some of Oliver Burkemann’s newsletters lately have been helpful for reframing.
