Ep #270: Course News + The Case For Planning In Fun (and tips for how to do it!)

September 29, 2025

In today’s episode, I open with some news about upcoming courses – both Best Laid Plans at Home: Planning 2026 AND Planning By Season will be back for next calendar year!

Best Laid Plans at Home: Planning 2026 is the non-in-person version of BLP Live, and features 4 hours of structured annual planning. In addition, there’s some systems discussion to ensure you have your planning methods ready to go for the new year (kind of a mini-BLP Academy!).

Planning By Season is a smaller group course that meets 10 times over the course of the year! We plan every season together (guided structured planning process, complete with workbook) and then check in each season to strategize, troubleshoot, and discuss a seasonal topic.

You can find more details on both on the courses page! Registration for each of these programs will open 10/1 (Wednesday) and will be first available to newsletter subscribers, so please ensure you are signed up to receive the newsletter if you’d like to ensure you have the earliest access, as some courses have filled to capacity in the past. (I only send out newsletters monthly — if that — and never share your info).

And, for the first year there will be bundled pricing for those interested in both of these programs! Please note: if you already purchased BLP at Home for 2026 during this summer’s midyear launch, you can still obtain the discount – just contact me for a special code.

Then, I had a lot of fun recording this episode because it’s all ABOUT FUN! I make the case for ensuring we plan in fun, ways to figure out what kind of fun we need, and inspiration for planning in fun at every time horizon, from daily to yearly and beyond.

A “planning for fun” tip I thought of while listening to the episode — if you have any interest in the performing arts, buy a seasonal subscription for shows. If you’re in/near a larger city, this could be for touring Broadway shows but it also could be 3 shows a year with a local theater group (much cheaper!) or maybe it’s dance, orchestra, opera, etc. You can always adjust the dates as needed but it makes this type of fun pre-paid and it’s a huge support for arts organizations.

I’ve had a Broadway (touring) subscription for about seven years with the same friend and it guarantees us hanging out for the shows, plus we’ve seen some very cool shows I wouldn’t have thought to get tickets for (a few duds too but in seven years I think there have only been two that were awful!). The same friend also gets one or two other subscriptions a year to a local theater, ballet, opera, etc. (depending on what’s playing that season) and then she’ll invite a different friend to join her for each show.

I can definitely see the systems you have in place to plan in fun now, Dr. Sarah Hart-Unger.
