Yesterday felt really special!
In many ways, it was just a regular day — I was on call, it was medium-busy. I came home and we did Hanukkah and I went outside of my usual skill set to build this tent for G:

AND the coolest part is hearing from people who are already reading!! One kind person wrote me: “I have already finished it once, highlighted it and have the pages marked to reference the next time I do my weekly planning.” Just wow. This made my day.
The other thing that made my day is that Kae saw a copy IN THE WILD at B&N!!! Love how she pulled it out so it would get some love, haha.

Today, life continues as usual.
But I do feel pretty happy and content. I already see a light at the end of the call tunnel (2 more nights — I really don’t mind the days, so not counting those!). AND THEN it’s Montana time. I’m already trying to think about how I can reasonably stay on top of email (because I just don’t want to miss anything important / book related, and also because I don’t want to deal with a 1000 email backlog at the end of the year) but also feel like I’m getting true rest and disconnection. I think I will try for one afternoon session a day between skiing + dinner and otherwise remain pretty unplugged. I will still probably post here, at least periodically, in part because I LOVE having those posts to look back on!
(One of my very favorite things about skiing is the forced unplugged-ness. It feels so cleansing.)

Speaking of which . . . I’m slightly nervous about the trip but have decided that even if we’re going down the mountain on a pile of slush it will be fun. (Just not AS fun as piles of powder would be). Hoping the on-mountain temps are a bit colder but it will be what it is! Today they appear to be having a thunderstorm so . . . this looks better than that, at least.
(Our first trip — Dec ’22 — we had -30 temps the first day, and the lifts were closed. This is also better than that, although I have fond memories of that ‘snowed in’ day, our first in Big Sky).
Okay back to work!
Anyone else on a countdown of sorts? 2.5 more work days until I’m in full-on vacay mode!!

Yes..2.5 days left of school before school is closed for two weeks!! I’m a special education director!
WOOOHOOOOO! So exciting. I hope you get so much rest and rejuvenation!
My book arrived yesterday afternoon. I can’t wait to start reading it today and start planning 2026!
Also, yesterday sounded like more than a regular day—Hanukkah AND a book launch. That sounds pretty special. ❤️
yes you are right. It did feel special despite very normal elements 🙂
Oh how exciting- your book in the wild!!! I’ll be at a Barnes and Noble this weekend and I’ll look for it. I love how Kae pulled it out, ha ha.
Okay I’ll be sending snowy vibes your way for Montana!!!!!!!
I have been counting down for a while, since the end of Thanksgiving 🙂 we have 3 full days and one half day!
YAYYY! so exciting!!
I’m a bit jealous of the readers ago already have your book! I suspect Australia is affected by the delay in release too (similar to UK) because I’ve had no update on my preorder yet, certainly no book in the mail. Boo!
On the upside, I’ve been on leave this week and have 3 weeks total off- good to have the break from work, lots of family time in a good way!
THREE WEEKS! I’m so excited for you Sophie! I REALLY hope it comes soon!!!!
I hope the rain turns to snow. This has been such a weird winter. We had a lot of snow, then bitter cold temps, then highs around 40, and now it might rain tomorrow. NO. I hate rain in December as it leads to ice. Hopefully things look up in Big Sky in the next few days! But either way, it will be a great getaway for you all!
I’m off on PTO the next 2 days and they will mostly be shouldless with some holiday errands mixed in. So I am very much looking forward to some time at home alone!! Winter break starts Monday but the kids have a few days of care each week through the after school program. I am very glad I will not have 2 weeks straight at home with them because that is just too much time at home in the winter for us…
hooray for some family days, and some childcare days! sounds like a lovely mix to me!!
Started reading your book and I’m so excited to learn! Love your content and podcasts. From a fellow physician mom trying to figure it out
Aww I’m so glad!!!!
Got your book in the mail today – cannot wait!!! Have been reading your blog since I was a med student back in 2008 – so amazing to now have your book on my bedside table 🙂 congrats!!!
thank you so much Amanda! it really has been quite a journey . . .
