Today is just another day in many ways — I woke up super happy because I didn’t get any overnight calls and then I remembered — it’s PUB DAY!
My book is out there in the world.
I found this 100 Dreams draft from 2013:
Some of these have definitely already happened (some of these: French Laundry, Vampire Weekend & Arcade Fire, be a provider that people ask for, go on a girls weekend, read regularly, pass boards (lol), meditate, take family to Williams reunion).
Some are still a work in progress (learn Spanish).
Some still sound appealing (cute pajamas + lingerie!).
Some will never happen (the sub-22 minute 5K will forever remain elusive).
And one was achieved today!!! You know, just 12 years after I put it on the list. This book existed in dream form for so long, and then it lived in Someday/Maybe, and finally it moved into active project status with a real deadline and built-in accountability from my publisher (Sourcebooks!). I am so excited and amazed that it is now a real thing, out in the world. And I greatly hope it inspires and provides lots of ideas to all who read it.
To everyone here who has encouraged me, THANK YOU!! SO many of the ideas in the book come from you all, from fellow bloggers (Jenny, Kae, and Elisabeth all ended up in the book in various ways) to commenters and those who have asked probing questions about the systems I talk about so much.
And if you preordered (or. . . ordered), thank you once again. I know not everyone will love it but I hope that some do and that this little volume can bring some positivity into the world.

Congratulations Sarah on pub day! I got my (preordered) copy in the mail today and am looking forward to digging in over Christmas break once we make it through this last week of school.

It tracks perfectly that you are going about your life on publication day. It speaks to the essence of how you write for REAL people with REAL schedules leading REAL lives.

I’m so happy for you! Mine will likely arrive later this week as it takes a bit long to get pre-orders from an Indie book store, but it’s my preferred way to buy physical books! I can’t wait to read it! You should be extremely proud of yourself! You wrote it under an incredibly tight schedule on top of being a busy dual-career momma!

Sarah, this is such a special day for you, congratulations! Your words on this blog, your podcast and now your book(!) are an ongoing encouragement to continue to strive for big (and little) goals, even in the face of adversity/setbacks. I managed a quarter of the book on my kindle yesterday morning before life/work/consultant interview prep took over and I can not wait to complete it and come up with my 2026 goals (I had stalled on these but your book has inspired me) once the interview is done. I’m so glad the on-call gods were good to you and you aren’t so sleep deprived you can’t enjoy your achievements. I’m fangirling for you all the way from Perth and will get my independent bookstore to get me a physical copy when Australia has it’s release in the new year.
