My Very Late FIGS

February 11, 2026

These are like, not fresh figs but dried FIGS. Both of which sound delicious right now because I am subsisting on broth and apple juice (scope day is tomorrow, fun times).

So, I may not be an official participant in Elisabeth’s gratitude project (check it out — it is truly lovely!), but figured that ESPECIALLY since I have done my share of whining lately, this post seems warranted.

Like Kae, I had been doing this anyway! MAYBE my initial reasoning for doing was just to make this spread in the Midori Hibino useful, but over time I definitely think it helps me to notice life’s little highlights, and identify SOMETHING that went well even on a tough day.

Here’s what January looked like (erroneously written on the 2027 spread, if you note the dates are wrong!). I called it “One Good Thing”, which I heard about on a podcast, I think, though I don’t remember the exact source.

January:

what happened 1/27 = 1/31? I guess I just forgot (and now I am tempted to fill in based on whatever I wrote in my 5 year)! But 26 FIGS is still pretty good . . .

(Pen strategically placed because a few FIGS were more about other people than about me!)

((BUT ALSO I LOVE THESE PENS! They are the Uniball One pens sold by Hobonichi to coordinate with each monthly color. I love having a go-to color all month long. The only downside is that a couple of the upcoming colors are a bit too light and will have to be used more as accents. Plus the fact that they took over 2 months to get here!))

February:

This takes approximately 1 minute (or less) and I do it right as I fill out that day’s morning pages.

Some of them are REALLY uneventful (yesterday: “finished long string of clinical days – relief”). Or: “wallowed and watched The Pitt”. But all of them include one little glimmer present in the day, and it’s fun to look for them, record them, and look back on them (past / present / future, right there!).

Okay I will try to get fig bars and fig newtons out of my head now! Joking aside I am not that hungry really (I think my body gave up, assuming nutrition is just not available today) and feel like today will be okay. (TONIGHT maybe not so much but I will spare you all any details. Hopefully my next post will be me saying it all went great and I had the best nap ever.)

PS: I got a message this morning that MY INSURANCE APPROVED THE BIRTH CONTROL. HOORAY! Maybe someone over there reads the blog.

Ha, good luck tonight with the prep! it really isn’t THAT bad (although there are people who disagree with that) and then yes, tomorrow you’ll have the best nap ever and it will be over.
One Good Thing- I love it and I do like those color coordinated pens!
