Dana K. White is a decluttering expert — NOT an organizing expert! In today’s episode, she shares her mess-free 5-step method, with advice for those who struggle to get started. The 28-day plan she mentions on the episode can be found in her first book, How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind.
You can find Dana at her website, her most recent organizing book is Organizing for the Rest of Us, and her super cute children’s book just came out called Winnie’s Pile of Pillows!

Prior organizing guests (mentioned in the ep):
Lisa Woodruff (Organize 365)
Shira Gill (Minimalista) (I realized this one is actually from Best of Both Worlds!)

I love Dana and have followed her for a while now. I’ve been using her method principals for most of my decluttering projects. The container concept especially has been really eye opening for me. Also, not creating a bigger mess is so helpful! If I know I have an uninterrupted block of time, I can pull everything out (it does have it’s time and place), but most of the time I’m fitting it into pockets of time. She didn’t mention it specifically, but her method works really well for folks with ADHD.
I am also a huge fan of Dana’s! I would also add that some of her techniques (storing Tupperware with the lids on, doing a Laundry Day) sound odd or counterproductive, but I have tried both and they actually work really well for me.
I also think I have undiagnosed ADHD, and I find her techniques super helpful.
