What even is normal?
Well, today is at least close to what I would consider a normal Saturday. Josh is on call (this is true 25% of the time). He headed to the hospital pretty early so I’m guessing it’s a busier one.
Here is the day’s landscape:

Interestingly, those highlighter colors are yellow, purple, blue, and neon green! They appear orange in photos however. Just so you know it looks prettier IRL.
G just finished tennis and I enjoyed a lovely walk (musical accompaniments: Stephen Sanchez LOVE, LOVE, LOVE which reminded me of Harry Styles mixed with the La La Land soundtrack so I had to listen to that too).
I have exactly 12 minutes before I need to pick up A from gym. NORMALLY her sessions are 3.5 hours long (yes, this is normal for gymnastics). But with her injury (and cast) she’s very limited in what she can do and she’s just going for the conditioning portion.
(While writing this post I am also making good use of this time-limited window by boiling eggs! Now there’s some random multi-tasking.)
C has ‘evaluations’ for the community summer basketball league. Everyone makes the team so it’s low stakes, but they use the evals to do a draft. Josh actually might end up taking him if he’s done at the hospital.
Then, C has a guitar lesson (at the local School of Rock). He’s super excited.
Side note: I have launched a major crackdown on Home Tidiness, because I have come to realize that 8/12/14 year olds are capable of cleaning up after themselves and there need not be a full on disaster scene every Sunday afternoon.
Between basketball and guitar, I think we’ll go to the pool (I am determined to swim some slow laps!). I also will squeeze in a strength workout at some point, maybe before dinner.
AND TONIGHT we will have a very chill low key evening with probable takeout and screens (for the kids) and/or books (for me, although I’d also like to finish Ep #4 of Euphoria. Though this is my least favorite season so far – and there were points I actively had to turn away from the screen things were so hard to watch).
And that, my friends, is a fairly normal Saturday, at least a normal “Josh-call” Saturday. Maybe not the most exciting but definitely some fun in there.

I have been out of town the last 5 weekends so I too am very glad to be home with a low key weekend (including a pedicure today!h
Hey, you said you were unsubscribing from peloton. I’m also considering doing this, mostly because I have gotten tired of the workouts and haven’t been doing them. You and I are both very goal oriented people, and I would love to hear how are you staying motivated to keep working out when the end goal (e.g. a race) is not as tangible? I don’t find weight loss or looking hotter to be especially motivating, and long term I have difficulty continuing to advance my weights because while I can usually make myself do 10-15 min of strength in my house, more than that is a real mental barrier for me, and I might end up not going at all if I have a “real” workout planned. I do enjoy walks, so I guess there is that.
Just wondering if you have any special insights! 🙂
i’m going to do a post on this coming up but I guess I would say i *am* kinda motivated by aesthetic goals lately. (esp since performance ones are really less on the table for me) i have a vision for example of what i’d love my arms to look like and so i kinda want to take on some fitness changes with those goals in mind. (I also feel like getting stronger seems kinda motivating for me! like to help keep function later in life?).
and I enjoy walks too! i don’t love doing strength workouts but if i see it as sort of meditative podcast or music time it’s better . . another reason i’m kinda tired of peloton. i don’t love the banter!
