July 20, 2026

Some people feel like planning in fun takes away . . . well, some of the fun!

I counter some of the common arguments for planning in fun, and offer a few suggestions for adding fun to every time frame, from yearly to daily!

WELL-TIMED EXAMPLE:

More to come, but a little preview of our fun (planned! though not terribly far in advance!) weekend.

Really enjoyed this episode! Practical tips & fun to hear you list all counter-arguments at the beginning.

A case could be made also for “recurring fun” (= the dinner with friends on the first Friday of the month, the yoga class scheduled each Wednesday, etc.) or for “planning immediately” (which I do with some friends: at the end of our coffee/lunch/talk I’ll say “Let’s schedule next time… and pencil something in immediately. Even if things can change, 80% of the time it works). But maybe that’s another episode?

ooh I love “recurring fun” – that’s such a good point! Takes a ton of the logistics challenge out of it 🙂 I will have to mention in a future update!

I liked this episode and I also wanted to give a plug for the case for planning sex. It’s one of my marriage tips! Especially when the kids were young and we were tired and busy – we always “scheduled” time to do it. It’s not too hard now since the kids are grown but it’s still important to schedule time (I don’t write this in my calendar or anything, but I do schedule it in my mind!). Sex can totally fall by the wayside when the kids are in activities, there is work involved, etc., but I feel it’s a really important way to reconnect and remember that spark!
