5 on a Friday: Planning Vibes Edition

August 14, 2026

SO MUCH FLUX IN THE PLANNER WORLD THIS WEEK!

1- Cultivate What Matters announced they are no longer going to produce PowerSheets. Political matters aside (the company that acquired Cultivate in 2022 is extremely conservative), PowerSheets was a unique product in the planner landscape — a beautifully presented book for goal tracking and reflection rather than a typical planner. I definitely went through phases of using it (early 2020s especially) and will miss having it as an option.

I’ve already gotten a few questions about what might fill the void – coming to mind are the Ink & Volt goal planners, Commit30, and for those who don’t need as much as structure, an EC Monthly. I also am considering putting together a Nested Goals workbook (!) and have just contacted the designer I work with, so we’ll see what happens there. (PDF though – def not a physical product at this point!).

2- Amplify is also shutting down!!! NOOOOOO! Amplify was featured one of my very first review episodes — a unicorn planner that had monthly / weekly / daily pages AND luxuriously thick paper. (The books were quarterly, as otherwise they would be way too thick to be functional!).

Vintage pic from my review! I can hardly believe BLP is 6 years old . . .

3- Hobonichi Launch Season continues — some SUPER cute Yumi Kitagishi options yesterday, though today’s lace handkerchief aesthetic is not my jam. I’m sure it’s someone’s, though!

serious contender for morning pages journal for 2027 . . . I think it would remind me not to take life too seriously

4- Sera sent me her substack post entitled When I am stressed, I look at Japanese stationery and I could relate SO HARD. Ha!! I figured some of you could, too!

5- I am having fun in my little alternative universe bullet journal situation and thinking hard about any possible changes in my 2027 stack! Not going to lie, I am enjoying my freeform blank daily pages so much that I may have to carry this into the new year. We will see!

various daily metrics, to do list, schedule, media tracking on left; analog time tracking on right . . . working well for me right now!

HAPPY FRIDAY to all 💚 I feel like it’s been a good first week of Q4 for me; let’s hope the vibes continue!

(PLEASE comment if you have other ideas for PowerSheets or Amplify alternatives – I’ve already gotten multiple requests for ideas and I know some of you probably have thoughts already!)

Makselife has a goal setting planner that is similar to Powersheets. I tried it for a year, and it didn’t quite fit the bill, but is probably what I’ll go back to now that Cultivate is going away.

Oh I really need a project planner. My day to day is pretty digital but I need to know where I am on projects.
