Definitely did the New Month Dance this morning!
AND, check out my beautiful new August screen backgrounds (some of you will have to avert your eyes regarding the notifications; I do make sure to clear them every so often).

My goals (I see this as a Reset / Restore kind of a month, in addition to getting into fresh back to school routines). I also did my traditional monthly spread to help me ‘see’ my work time and am pleased to note that this is kind of a normal month. Not a ton of travel or extras, though things will continue to be challenging with Josh in Non-Weight-Bearing Mode.

To celebrate, I went to the gym. It was extra crowded so maybe I am not the only feeling the NME (New Month Energy). I was thrilled that there were no Bulgarian Split Squats in the first August lower body workout, too.
THEN I took a little walk (part of it with A), listened to the new Ariana Grande (I like it so far), and will be checking The Odyssey off of this list already since we’re going today! I’m excited to see it.
Wishing everyone the best possible start to August . . . any exciting goals for the month?

Definitely share what you thought about the Odyssey. I am not sure we can sit through a 3.5 hour movie in the theater, so we may wait til it comes out on streaming. My medical leave ends this week, which is both good and bad. I can’t really say I missed my clinical job… at all these past couple of months. Ha. It will be interesting to see how re-entry goes. Here’s the reminder to myself that each day is an opportunity for me to reconsider whether staying or moving is in my best interests.
I liked it!! It did hold my attention quite well, running time is just under 3hrs (but if you’re there for all the previews you’re right – totally sitting there well over 3!). there was a rather long ending scene I thought could be shortened but overall it was pretty immersive and enjoyable and just cool to see the story acted out!
I am thinking of you as you prep for re-entry – I love the open/flexible attitude and you’re right – you have choices!!!
I thought of you this morning when I woke up. You needed that fresh start feeling! I am so envious of your impeccable hand writing. Mine is pretty terrible!!
I hope August is a great month! I started mine with a workout, too. And then we went to the library and I was able to page through a Yosemite guide book while the kids happily played/looked at books. Yosemite is one of the parks we are considering for our 10th anniversary trip next year. I’m leaning towards it for a variety of reasons but we will see what we ultimately decide on!
aww thank you! that sounds lovely – I ended up browsing in the library too and found Marie Kondo’s latest so that was exciting (and Long Island Compromise). I’m in such a backlist mode right now even though I just bought the new Ann Patchett and have that waiting for me!
Yosemite sounds amazing though loved seeing Kae’s recent Zion trip and made me want to go there too!
Happy new month! I can feel your energy from the screen :-).
Most exciting goal is a solo trip to London (I’m in Denmark). I had a solo trip on my “not likely but I do so wish” goals list this year. And how fortunate am I that my favorite band is giving a talk in London and my husband encouraged me to go? Very privileged – am I’m beyond excited.
Other goals are a couple of planned date nights, training for my first half marathon in September and getting into a good post-holiday groove a work. Oh and see the Odyssey and the new Spiderman 🙂
I hope August makes up for the last wee while for you. Sending positive energy your way!
ooh London sound amazing and I’m very glad you get to go! Just saw the Odyssey and the theater was crowded with people coming to see the new spiderman. Funny that they have overlapping cast members too!!! Tom Holland and Zendaya def having a moment . . .
Are you going to Hawks Cay? We spent spring break there in March and it was our first visit to the Keys. We did sunset cruise, oldest daughter and I did snorkel/sand bar activity and husband and I had dinner at their nice restaurant one night while kids had pizza at condo.
yes! This is actually our 3rd or 4th trip and it’s become a Labor Day tradition with friends. I love the sunset cruise idea except that in Sept that’s def a big storm risk, ha! The last time we went, a bunch went fishing and then they cooked the fish for us at the restaurant! It was great. I think this time we’ll snorkel so will look into the snorkel/sand bar activity you mentioned!
Back to school for us next Wednesday. I am back at work tomorrow after a few weeks off, and my son turns 9 on Tuesday so we have birthday shenanigans. A family gathering for cake on the day and then camping at the weekend and go ape (a high ropes course) with his friends. I sorted all the uniforms at the end of the year so feel decently set. Main goal for this month is to get all the artwork up on the walls, and the wallpaper off my son’s room in preparation for replastering and painting. And also get as prepped for teaching and the coming term as possible – revisions to papers, lectures written, etc. It is going to be a crazy term so trying to be as organised as I can.
Would you consider doing a post on the various online fitness / training programs you have used and what you have found to be useful / less helpful about each one? Am sure there have been a number mentioned over time (years!) but I’ve never tried an online program. Am considering doing so now. Would be really useful to read yours and other readers’ comments on which ones they have found helpful.
ooh thank you so much for this idea!!!! i will post later this week, will be a really fun topic!
Yay for August! I’ll bet you’re happy for a refresh- July was a pretty rough month for you! The new month kind of snuck up on me, so no big goals yet- but I did go through the school calendar and write down all the important dates- including “first day of school” on August 10th!!!!! Not quite sure how I feel about that…
YES – so early this year! A has orientation 8/10, C starts 8/12, and G doesn’t start until 8/19. Trying to see it as a gentle re-entry vs just totally annoying. Ha!
Would you consider doing an episode to to talk about how you organize your phone? I’m intrigued by the very blank screen layout, the widgets, and apps in the bottom bar. I’ve never thought about adjusting my phone that much but I can imagine it helps with minimizing distractions and feeling calm.
ooh yes absolutely! I don’t even really notice how i have it set up anymore but there definitely was some thought put into it at one point. I do think it helps!!
Love love love!
August – theme Relish! June – July was a gigantic month of moving and family time and I just want to enjoy the summer.
Love your august goals and categories!
