1- I can’t believe it’s the 25th anniversary of 9/11. I teared up a little listening to Up First thinking about the horror and sadness of that day, plus the intense feelings of uncertain safety I remember feeling so . . . new and shocking that day. I was a senior in college and vividly remember the hours spent with my college BFFs watching the coverage, worried but also so glad to be there for each other.
Anyway, I just wanted to pay tribute to anyone who suffered a loss that day, directly or indirectly. Life is so unpredictable, so unfair, and so precious.
(And the rest of this post will be dedicated to much much smaller things, because I guess that’s also part of what makes life what it is!)

I couldn’t come up with many tangible items. In fact, the first thing that I thought of was that I would use this to somehow . . . never again take overnight call. I will take an uninterrupted night of sleep over all the fancy cars and handbags in the world!
5- Dealing with some difficult non-bloggable things lately but overall keeping busy and staying engaged with life. There is no ‘out of the woods’ period where everything is awesome forever, so we should all savor the less stressful times, I guess.

I was a junior in college on 9/11. It was such a horrific day. My friend and I felt so helpless so donated blood because we wanted to do SOMETHING. I remember how the country really came together in the aftermath. These days we are so much more divided than we were 25 years ago, sadly.
I’m looking forward to listening to the GND football episode. I’m thinking C must not be super into football? Paul’s enthusiasm for the sport is very contagious so he’s pushed me to pay more attention. But I always had a good understanding of the sports as I was a football statistician in HS! I was a statistician for boys and girls basketball, too, which is not surprising given my love for data and numbers!

I cheered (as in was in cheerleading) on the sidelines of football games for years and still never figured any of it out, what can I say . . .
I saw Medium Build open for his first night for Mumford and Sons in July and really liked him. It was great because he talked about seeing Mumford and Sons years ago and they brought him out to sing a duet and it felt like his dreams were coming true in front of 20,000 people. Great moment. And I’m enjoying his new album that just came out.

Your reflection on $10M reminds me of an outstanding post written by Gwendolyn Bounds on her substack, Not Too Late. It’s about what she would/wouldn’t do if she suddenly had $26M. How much would it change her life. Unfortunately I couldn’t buy myself out of one more set of nights/Wards while in residency. Yes, that GND episode was great- perfect for someone just getting into football. The extended version for Patreon was pretty funny, where they talked about their “fantasy football boyfriends.” As far as cheering for years and never understanding the game… my daughter has played in the band for all the high school games, including numerous playoff games and back-to-back state championships, and it just came out recently that she thought you scored by throwing the football through the goalposts (or as she said, those big things at the end of the field). She literally has no idea what’s going on- I tried to teach her a little but she just doesn’t care.

Can definitely relate to “not being out of the woods” where the woods just keep going and going. I guess I am not seeing the forest through trees or something like that. Also a very hard September for now.
