Dare I say time tracking this week has been . . . pretty easy?

Yesterday was a clinical day, and it also marks the THIRD day in a row I was out fairly late!
Often my Thursdays start a little bit later, but not this particular day as I had added some more emergent patients to the start of the day. I got to see a tiiiiiny baby which is always fun (and baby is healthy which is great; I was able to rule something out and reassure the family).
There was a little no-show period (siblings had booked and didn’t come somehow!?) and I conquered my EPIC inbox and then my gmail inbox (and got up yesterday’s time track post!).
I took a walk at ~12:45 that actually felt like fall – that was fun. It had just rained, and the temp was something like 77F, which is unheard of at noon this time of year! I loved it.
Afternoon was patient-filled and then at 5 I changed into ‘normal person clothes’ (ie out of scrubs) and headed to a happy hour to celebrate one of our nurses who retired after an over 30 year career in our division! I always loved working with her and will miss her but am super happy for her to take the next step as she clearly earned it.
THEN at ~6:30 I drove to Social Engagement #2 — book club! This was ~30 min from the happy hour (southern Fort Lauderdale –> Weston). We hadn’t met up in quite a while so this was a fun one where we mostly talked recent fun reads and caught up rather than focus on the last book (The One Day You Were My Husband, which wasn’t really a group favorite anyway).
Just like the happy hour, I left that gathering a little early to pick up A from dance (9 pm) and was home by 9:15. Whew!
Side note: I decided not to drink at either of these gatherings because a) there was too much driving involved and b) the week was packed and I knew I needed decent rest. I am very happy with this decision (no one cared and both events were fun anyway. Instead, I ate a lot of brie at book club.)
MINI 5 ON A FRIDAY
1- Album listening project still going strong! TWO standouts last week were Sylvan Esso and This is Lorelei.

2- Finished this:

I thought the advice was sound (and was surprised at the author’s argument against PSA testing, basically ever). There apparently IS data in favor of eating ice cream, btw. Which is definitely a good thing to know.
3- I listened to a bunch of AI- themed podcasts (Ezra Klein, Pantsuit Politics) and am just doing my best to . . . not freak out? I don’t really feel like the doom-centric news is very actionable on my behalf so I’m trying to stay reasonably informed without panic.
4- IT’S TRADER JOE’S PUMPKIN-FEST TIME!! We are moving this festival to dinner because both lunchtime slots feature kid activities. What are your favorite TJs pumpkin items? I know we’ll do the samosas and probably some kind of pasta with pumpkin sauce, but there are probably some hidden gems I don’t know about. (Pumpkin Kringle for dessert I think!?)

5- Josh heads back to CALL for the first time in ~3 months today — which mean I head back to J-Call weekend mode. Other than a lot (lot) of driving it looks to be a pretty chill one.

I just put a library hold on that book! It sounds good.
TJs!!! I still haven’t gotten there. The closest one to me is just far enough away to make it really inconvenient. But I WILL go- next week for sure. I remember those leaf chips from last year!
Good luck with the Josh call weekend- I hope everything goes well.
I actually prefer the pumpkin chips taste wise but the leaf ones are so cute!
I take joy some joy in the growing pushback on all the wellness trends. I gave an interview today for an article about CGMs in non-diabetics and it was so refreshing that the journalist was writing from a somewhat skeptical point of view. I’m all for being healthy, but within reason.
This post is so great!
1. I love a social event on a weeknight—they always leave me feeling so joyful.
2. Ditto to opting out of alcohol in favor of better sleep! I don’t always do this, but when I need quality rest I do and it makes a big difference.
3. TJ’s pumpkin season!! I also love the pumpkin tortilla chip as well as their pepita salsa. I heard the pumpkin Kringle mentioned on GND podcast but haven’t tried it. I like the salsa also over, say, scrambled eggs or as part of a breakfast burrito! Last night I made the first butternut squash soup of the season here (you can roast pumpkin instead for this soup.) Enjoy your fall pumpkin dinner!!
I like the pumpkin sourdough, and my kids love the pumpkin brioche. Also the pumpkin ice cream. We bought the frozen scones but haven’t baked them yet. We also enjoy the seasonal fun!
ooh i love scones!!! i find their pumpkin ice cream a little weirdly egg nog tasting!? but maybe we’ll try it again!!
