1- G wants a park birthday party WITH an animal show for her birthday. I am only happy I talked her out of a party at our house (it’s just not . . . that fun of a place?) but now I have to deal with lots of logistics.
Ahh well — she (OF COURSE) knew to mention that “there won’t be that many more birthday parties, you know!” and . . . not only is she right, I was very impressed because she knew that was the exact right thing to say to basically get me to do anything.
Her birthday is not for 2 months but I have these logistics to figure out on this week’s list (and our preferred park appears to already be like, out of pavilions. #(*#$!).
2- I am all caught up with my blog/podcast/course stuff!! SUPER thrilled to be headed into call next week with all of this locked down.
3- THIS TV LIST IS A LOT OF FUN. I have watched very few of these shows but I have to say I think Josh has consumed a fair number! He also reads. I’m not sure how that all fits except for the fact that I think he is a fairly Low Sleep Needs person. (I would consider myself a moderate-sleep-needs person; I’m pretty fine with 7 hours and the occasional bad night, but less than 7 chronically is definitely not good).
I was kind of miffed that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend did not get a slot. Also, Silicon Valley!
I am not sure this list will alter my future TV watching habits except that maybe I’ll give Shrinking another try (though . . . I think I am 2 for 2 falling asleep while attempting to watch that show so maybe not). Does anyone else have grievances?

4- I’m starting to feel like part of the ‘crew’ at Weds night Pilates! This is a pretty cliquey class. I think they are also in a book club together. CAN I SCORE AN INVITE? (DO I even have time for another book club? Maybe?). Also, I find certain things weirdly hard for me in Pilates (still really really bad at Teaser) and other things super fun and easy (piking on the chair).
5- FRACTURED RELATIVES STATUS REPORT: He is definitely improving but still nowhere near baseline. He’s fully back at work (for over a month now)!, operating and taking call again but I can tell it’s definitely not a pain-free easy experience from day to day. That said the gradual improvement is still welcome! He has PT, is doing some strength + some (indoor) biking and is thinking about his next athletic phase.
My dad is also doing a lot better! He’s nowhere near his prior baseline either but things are definitely slowly on the upswing. Hopefully 6 months from now they will BOTH be easily moving around pain-free.
(Can we make 2027 A Year of No Fractures? PLEASE???)

Phil and I are watching Silicon Valley right now! We are on season 5. It’s oddly prescient about AI!! It feels like a more current show than it is. Season 5 came out in 2014. Those writers had some major foresight!
Does Josh know if he will he able to ski again! I am glad he’s doing ok overall but the recovery sounds so tough and likely is a prolonged process to get to baseline!
his ortho thought he probably would be able to! ALL FINGERS CROSSED!!
and YES I love that show. All the Danesh/Gilfoyle humor too. All the side characters were SO GOOD! (Laurie Breem in that show weirdly reminds me of the creepy Laurie in Euphoria too . . .)
Maybe G can choose between animals vs. park? Like maybe a zoo trip with some close friends vs. a bigger party in a park? We have been doing parties at home for the past several years and it has been great for the most part (except the parental staying up all night/sleepover aspect of it). D recently declared our house “embarrassing” and, well, I don’t have to care about that. It has resulted in her not having friends over as much, which saddens me slightly, but not enough to buy nicer furniture and new carpeting.
Okay I am officially laughing at your fomo for the Pilates class bookclub that you would clearly in no way have time for. I laugh because I SO identify with this!!!! But I ask you to consider whether you prefer to have agency over your TBR (which, did you not this very week share a photo of a LARGE LINE OF UNREAD BOOKS???) vs prefer to read a selected book and then get to discuss in a group? I am so an agency over what I read person that I am only a member of one book club, which reads only a specific topic (in my case, Catholic Faith based books) that I would like to be reading otherwise but am unlikely to read without the accountability of the club. And the members are my dear friends who I am excited to see at least monthly when we meet. I read ~70-80 books a year, and even sometimes I grumble about the selection for this group!
Anyhow. Glad you are making in roads in friendships with that group. More friends is not a bad thing! 😊
ha i KNOW!!!! And I’m already in my neighborhood book club (which I started years ago!) anyway. I do not need another one. you are very right!
Shrinking is a great show – stick with it!! Also have been loving The Gilded Age on HBO especially Seasons 2-33.
That should say Seasons 2-3!!
Hahaha I’m laughing at G’s ploy to get her park party. It reminds me of when Paul was a senior in high school- he would be totally lazy and ask me to get him something like a glass of water. If I said “can you get your own water?” he would say “you know… next year I’ll be gone. One of these days will be the last time you ever get me water…” and I would rush off to the kitchen. She’s starting young!
Glad to hear all the fracture victims are healing up. Yes, let’s see if 2027 can be a fracture-less year for your family.
I take a mat Pilates class once a week and also dislike teaser very much.
Your teaser comment made me laugh – usually by the time we get to the bit with legs only I’m so ready to just collapse like a noodle, but no! Straight into the cancan we go !
And huray for pilates friendships – it’s how I got an additional babysitter (daughter of somebody in the class).
This is probably an unhelpful comment, lol, but my middle son went to a petting zoo birthday party a couple years ago where they brought a pregnant cow, and the kids thought that was the coolest thing EVER. They could put their hands on her flank and feel the calf move. So… ya know… there are only so many birthdays left to have a pregnant cow at your house **insert laugh-cry face**.
WOWWW that’s amazing!!! I don’t think that’s coming to a park near us but it does sound awesome.
I am SO glad both Josh and your dad are improving. What a tough year healthwise on so many levels. (Last year too… EGADS). Onward and upward and I am so hoping 2027 is just the healthiest, calmest year ever for you and your family <3
