nor is it a lesson on sex chromosomal disorders (i know, disappointing, right?)
rather: josh turned thirty today! t h i r t y. and it was very exciting.
in celebration, i took him out to eat at magnolia grill, and it was a culinary extravaganza (mushroom grits souffle . . . oysters . . . and bananas foster ice cream pie, among other delicacies). i also gave him a pretty (it is pretty, all right? i don’t care about that masculine/feminine adjective crap. this isn’t french, you know!) watch, and kept pestering him with questions like:
‘what does it feel like to be 30?’
‘can you believe you’re really ’30’?’
‘isn’t it weird you get to say ’30’ when someone asks you your age?’
‘do you think i’ll still get carded when i’m 30?’
amazingly, he didn’t run screaming from the table, though maybe he would have if the food hadn’t been so fabulous.
i love birthdays.
