mile 26!

September 28, 2008

this is it!
my last call day of 14 in a row over the past 2 months! now i just have to cross the finish line to put this tough block behind me. our apartment is a mess, and i have 8 jillion things to catch up with, but i am happy knowing that i’ll be able to get it allllll under control once this last shift is over.

plus, the fact that it will be 25 hours rather than 30?

priceless.

date night
or i guess date day/night, more accurately. we did end up checking out the el greco/velasquez exhibit, which was cool. i liked learning some of the history of the era alongside the paintings — i have become such a fan of those headsets at museums that give you an audio presentation to accompany what you are seeing. i really like this still life by cotan — seems so avant-garde for its time!

sadly, we didn’t get to go to pineapple express because it’s no longer playing here! instead, we checked out burn after reading, the latest coen brothers movie. it was dark, twisty, fun, and had a great cast, which included john malkovitch, george clooney, tilda swinton, and brad pitt who was hilarious as a well-meaning but not-so-bright jock with a large wad of chewing gum constantly in his mouth. we both liked the movie a lot.

finally, we got to try vespa, an italian place in chapel hill that had piqued our curiosity for years. it was a nice dinner although i felt like i could have re-created much of the entree food at home without too much difficulty. for both of us the highlight was absolutely perfect tiramisu with a strawberry sauce. i would go back for dessert any time!

yesterday’s run: 10 miles, treadmill style. 0.5% incline. i varied the pace from 8:57/mi to 8:27/mi, changing it up every 3 songs. my legs actually feel pretty good today.
