bon matin
and happy christmas eve, if you’re celebrating. it’s just another day of the community hospital for me. i have full days today and tomorrow, but really it isn’t too bad or too hard — many of my resident counterparts are having to take call over this 6 day stretch so i’m just thrilled to be able to sleep in my bed each night!
and sleep i have done. the past 2 night i think i’ve gotten more than 8 hours each, although both sleep experiences were marred by crazy dreams:
monday night: i was outside of the community hospital (which is in not-the-best part of durham) for some reason and saw someone getting into my car! instead of running away like a smart person, i decided to investigate. so the guy shot me in the head. that dream ended quickly and i was glad to be awake and alive at 2:48 in the morning.
tuesday night: i was trying to get a bus back home but the bus driver took me somewhere totally NOT home, and i ended up escaping but then trying to take a boat and i fell in a muddy brown river. i ended up walking home, through these weird city streets (not chapel hill-esque) in brown, wet clothing and i was really sad. i don’t remember how it ended, but i do remember being thrilled that my credit card and ATM card were still in my muddy, soaked pocket.
maybe this is what happens when you go to bed reading haruki murakami. it’s worth it, though! i am loving the wind-up bird chronicle.
2009 begins?
well, i hope not, because i haven’t made any resolutions yet. but i did get to break into my new 2009 planner yesterday — exciting! i really like the one i have — i use the calendar space on the left for ‘scheduled’ things — this includes my work schedule because it can be rather irregular sometimes — and the right for things to do, my plans for running, and other notes. for your viewing pleasure (because i always like seeing how other people organize things!):click to enlarge if desired
aaaaand i’m off to work (as you can see above!). i will bring all of my zen powers with me . . . i will need them since i’m on for a long shift today!

workout: 5 miles at 8:57/mi, 0.5% incline and 20 minutes weights
– 2 x 10 pushups
– 2 x 12 plie squats (15 lb weight)
– 2 x 10 bicep curls on bosu (1 12 lb weight and 1 12.5 lb weight — there weren’t 2 12s!)
– 2 x 10 tricep pressdowns (15 lb weight)
– 2 x 10 double lunges (8 lb weights each hand)
– 2 x 10 seated rows (40 lbs)
doin’ time: i made martha’s prosciutto-wrapped chicken and sauteed spinach with raisins. this was easy and an all-around hit! the salty prosciutto was the perfect complement for the clean-tasting chicken breast, and i loved the raisins in the spinach. served with some whole wheat couscous and some white (sustainable!) wine from whole foods. recipes in the sidebar!

dowdyism: the cover came with it — it’s the ‘spring green’ cover from thedailyplanner.com (love that site!)
officesupply: thank you! i try to be super organized because i am not sure how i would survive otherwise.
