live from clinic
hello from our acute care clinic 🙂 usually we are wayyyy to busy to permit this sort of dilly-dallying, but it’s been a slow morning so far and i’ve been piecing together this post in fits and spurts. i missed my normal posting opportunity because i realized upon checking my email this morning that i needed to rush to hospital to get in line to sign up for moonlighting!

moonlighting is a term used for working OUTSIDE of your regular residency responsibilities to get some extra experience and (yay) to generate some extra $$$. moonlighting is highly regulated in terms of hours, so it cannot cause you to go over the 80 hours work week, and it has to be an approved activity (ie, pediatrics-related).

this particular opportunity is for friday night to saturday AM in the NICU. i’ve worked that shift many times before — usually for free. and it is not my favorite. but somehow it is SO much more alluring when the going rate is $70/hr! multiply that times a 19 hour shift, and even minus taxes taken out, you can imagine that many residents are quite interested in this opporutnity. interested enough to sacrifice sleep and line up outside of the chiefs’ office at 6 am friday morning to grab a slot.

and . . . success! i now have 2 of these shifts on my calendar, which means:

— more chances to gain procedure experience that i need to graduate

and

— BOOTS. i am so going to buy a sweet pair of BOOTS.

friday fun
i’m excited to party on the porch tonight at the carolina inn! josh has been begging to go to this outdoor music/beer/wine/friday fun fest for weeks now, and i think tonight’s the night. unfortunately i don’t have saturday off, but it’s still a short day so there will be something to celebrate.

giveaway reminder: 5 days remain
remember to enter on this post. and don’t forget to link on your blogs if you have them! that’s a requirement to win . . . and i will be checking!

Wow, one shift of moonlighting is just slightly less than what I make in a month as a graduate student *sigh* Something to look forward to, I guess!

wow that is serious money for moonlighting! what you make in an hour isn&#39t that much less than what i make in a DAY with my summer job!

Moonlighting for one shift pays almost as much as one paycheck of mine! But I do love overtime pay!
