attention summit runners!
it occurred to me on my run this morning (that’s when the best ideas always come, right?) that i’m headed to boston in 2 weeks, as are a bunch of you! unfortunately, due to work i will not be able to go to the cocktail party on friday night, but will be arriving at the airport at 10 pm (likely to pass out in my hotel room promptly afterwards).

nonetheless, i want to maximize my chances to meet and hang out with other running writers that i feel like i “know” in real life (you know who you are!). some of you are way faster than i am and others seem like they are closer to my pace, but for a recreational run the conversation is more important than speed, right?

so: anyone up for an early run on saturday morning? we can start at the radisson for convenience, and i can plan out a distance and route to be determined based on what everyone feels like doing — i am sure there are some great places to run around boston! i know there is also a more official planned run on sunday AM which i will definitely be attending, but i know a lot of you are like me and would want to maximize the mileage and the fun!

comment on this post if you’re interested, or drop me an email! and anyone else attending, feel free to ask others to join on your sites. the more the merrier — i can just hear all of our garmins/polars beeping off at once already.

potential live music opportunities
on another note, finsihing with CALL has inspired me to look into getting out more and doing more fun and exciting things with my time than answer pages! i saw the decemberists last month, which really reminded me how much joy a great concert can bring. our area is actually quite rich in concert opportunities (yet another plug for durham/chapel hill/raleigh . . . yes, i really do love it here!). here are a few i am interested in coming up in the next few months:

august 6: coldplay in raleigh (bec, i’m actually thinking about this! what do you think??)

september 13: son volt in carrboro (josh this is for you)

september 21: ingrid michaelson in carrboro

september 24 & 29: lady gaga (!!!) in richmond (it’s far, but i’ll be on vacation . . .)

october 2: great lake swimmers at a tiny carrboro venue

october 7 & 8: andrew bird in carrboro

december 5: (strictly for josh!) david allen coe in raleigh

obviously i will not be attending all of these events, but it’s pretty cool to have all of these options! in the past i’ve had a terrible track record of buying tickets to things and then being too tired/busy to attend, but i think life is about to get a lot more manageable, making it more realistic to plan for these sorts of things. and so . . . why not?!

today!
is off to a great start. i ‘slept in’ until 6:30, conquered 9 miles of hills in the humid mist, and i’m about to head over to our local caribou where blogger bethany works to sample a chocolate coffee concoction that she has been raving about . . . yum. then it will be a regular sunday of getting things done, but i think josh and i are going to venture out to a matinée here — i’ll report back on which of the 4 we end up seeing!

it’s amazing how excited i am to have this time to just do normal things. i suppose that’s one side benefit of obscene hours — you really appreciate the times when life’s pace doesn’t have to be so frenetic. i am definitely savoring my sunday already.

doin’ time: dinner party. i wanted to have my intern & sub-intern over to thank them for all the torture i put them through — actually, more to celebrate the completion of a month filled with long nights and way too many 2 am admissions! obvi, i turned to martha to provide the menu — and i was really happy with the result! judging from the clean plates, i think the guests were, too. i made:

mixed tomato salad

potato salad with sour cream and scallions

favorite turkey burger

best beef burger (100% local, grass-fed, level 4 animal welfare rated beef)

blueberry crumb cake

served with dry creek fumé blanc, brought back from our napa trip in may.

my plate:

the best part!

Your dinner party food looks wonderful. I had to go see what Martha&#39s "favorite" turkey burger recipe looks like.

Hooray for your fresh start. Sorry I&#39m so late…I just finished my internship. I won&#39t be able to run on Saturday morning because I&#39m staying with a friend but I can&#39t wait to see you (again) in Boston!!

I&#39ve been totally out this week due to my parents visiting, but I&#39m definitely up for a run on Saturday morning! Gotta work up our appetites for the Mix My Granola yogurt bar! We should coordinate this week.
