glee!

as part of a little media binge*, i watched 2 episodes of glee yesterday. this show is a hybrid sitcom/musical, with elaborate choreographed song and dance routines in each episode. the show overall has a very election-like satirical quality; rachel, the main female character is SO tracy flick, but with a very pretty, broadway-esque soprano.

wasn’t reese BRILLIANT in that role? i think there is a little bit of tracy in each and every one of us . . .

though the musical sitcom is a relatively fresh format, glee falls into tired high school stereotypes: football jocks and cute but mean cheerleaders face off against the nerdy glee club performers. yes, it’s tongue and cheek, but sometimes the irony is lost. and as a former chorus member AND cheerleader, i take at least mild offense to the idea that these two need to be so oppositional.

i’m being all critical, but did i enjoy the show? yes, oh yes i did. so now i have another tv commitment to add to my list (already containing top model: the petite edition, desperate housewives, grey’s, entourage and past seasons of weeds). my media diet may prove even more difficult than i anticipated!

fashion followup
thank you all for casting your votes yesterday! it sounds like most of you feel i could get away with the rainbow strapless option, so i think that’s the way am going to go. i actually headed to anthro yesterday after work, but the only one of the 3 that they had in my size was the striped corset. that dress looked rather awesome on me in some ways (if i do say so myself) but also bordered on costume-y and did not look at all appropriate for a wedding.

a lot of you also commented on the beauty of the betine. i really wanted to try this one on! they had it in some much bigger sizes, but the quality and cut looked very nice. i may order it still — not for this wedding (it’s backordered in my size!), but for the holiday season. we’ll see!

group run, take 2
in just a few minutes i will head out with the marathon training group i ran with last week! the FIRST schedule actually calls for a 10 mile cutback week, but i may do a bit more depending on what the others are running. i’d rather not add mileage on given my injury track record, but at the same time i want to finish with the people that i ran with last time! i guess i’ll just play it by ear . . .

some quick links
survive and thrive, a little blog piece on how to transform everyday anxiety into happiness. there’s nothing groundbreaking in this article, but i liked the part about the monk who found bliss under horrible conditions, because living in the moment was all he could do.

mark bittman in runner’s world: simply good is an article from the latest RW issue. i love bittman’s food philosophy! my favorite quote from the article: “I believe no food is “evil”—it’s the proportions that are off.” right on, mark bittman.

jess is giving away these trigger point rollers! i’d love to give this GRID tool a try on my injury prone hips and ankles.

* what can i say? i am only enforcing limitations on weekdays, and friday after work doesn’t count!

9.18.09

workout: 7 mile tempo workout, on the treadmill, 0.5% incline
2 miles warmup @ 9:13/mi pace
2 miles tempo @ 7:53/mi pace (was supposed to be 3 but i could NOT hack it)
1 mile desperate recovery run @ 9:13/mi pace
1 mile tempo @ 8:06/mi pace
1 mile cooldown @ 9:13/mi pace

that kind of sucked. i suppose that’s just a fact of running: It’s not always going to be good!

doin’ time: nah, pizza instead. this is totally our fallback food!

reading: none — i felt like indulging in a lazy friday!

Election was fabulous, so underappreciated. I watch it whenever it is on!
I love Glee. It&#39s so silly, but hilarious. I mean, a capella to "I Want to Sex You Up"? Hilarious!

heard a piece on npr about glee and it sounded like their artistic goals were very high. Missed the poll on the dresses but I liked the monochromatic corset…is it going to be cold at the wedding?

    I love the berry dress.

Sorry about the suck-y tempo run. It happens. Next one will be better!

I just realized you had your long run. Don&#39t you just love that post-long run feeling of noodle legs? And the great appetite? Aaahh, I love marathon training!
