labor day charades
i spent yesterday doing all kinds of catchup — cleaning, organizing, and planning galore. i can’t tell you how much i enjoy these sorts of days! it’s almost silly.
i’m now ready to start the (short!) week, with a clean house and closetful of washed clothes. while i’m on a nice, easy rotation right now, my to-do list is actually quite long, filled with side projects and other things that i put off during my previous rotations. my goal this week is to try to be a little more productive after work, which will mean resisting the urge to flop back onto the couch with my precious google reader.
we celebrated NOT working last night with an indoor barbeque (the weather was rather lackluster).
there was beer . . .
and an eager grillmaster . . .
who helped whip up a delicious (martha) meal.
barbequed chicken + corn and radish salad (recipes on the sidebar for these), plus salad and some mushroom-flavored couscous which reminded me of thanksgiving stuffing.
skinny jeans are for real people
lee requested pictures of my jeans, and who am i to let her down? especially since she is a newly minted skinny jeans owner herself. now, it’s not like these jeans are a brand new style — they have been around for a few seasons. in fact, my impeccably stylish and beautiful japanese college roommate (hi azusa!) was wearing them about a decade ago, and i’m sure she’s moved on to something cooler by now!
however, i’ll be honest — i never thought i could pull them off. no part of me is truly big, but my thighs and butt are definitely a size up from the rest of me — they always have been, and i guess at this point i can assume that they always will be. i also have short limbs and a longer torso, which is less than ideal given that my sum total height is 5’1″ on a good day.
like any other woman, i tend to focus on these so-called flaws at times. but in recent years i’ve been better about just accepting — and even enjoying — the whole package. i’ll even be honest and admit that i like my body and i feel comfortable in it*. so just because i don’t have heidi klum (or even heidi montag) legs doesn’t mean i can’t rock a style that i think is cute. WHO’S WITH ME?
so here they are. from martin + osa, a store that i just discovered. it’s sort of a more trendy/less business-y banana republic, and i found that their jeans fit me very well.
even my sister agrees that these are true ‘skinny jeans’ (ie, not straight like my last attempt)
although she said the outfit was too boring. which is true. next time i’ll add some color!
* it’s kind of sad that i feel self-conscious announcing this! we’re so used to beating ourselves up that i’m actually embarrassed to write something this confident. i know caitlin would approve, though.

Two things for you missy:
1) That shih-tzu it the cutest dog ever! My family has a shihtzu and I have a soft spot for them. So precious. I love her teeth showing in your picture! 🙂
2) Girl, you are ROCKING those skinny jeans! They are so flattering on you and you are wearing the skinny jeans proud–as you should because you look GREAT in them. They fit you perfect! I consider myself a jean and denim guru (haha) because I have researched LOTS of brands, tried on lots of different styles/cuts/washes, and done projects on denim–and I completely agree that you look SO FINE in those jeans. 🙂
I need to go look at Martin and Osa though, never tried on denim there. I must go pronto!
I don't own any skinny jeans, but you are totally rocking the look! And I love catch up days too. They are so satisfying!
Cute jeans, Sarah! They look great on you. I am wondering if I will ever wear my skinny jeans again post-pregnancy.
And I LOVE the Miami Hurricanes pride on Josh – what a game! Go Canes!!!
woohoo! love the skinny jeans – they look awesome on you! i'm with denise on her comment – i have one pair that i didn't wear enough pre-pregnancy – now i'm hoping for the days where i'll be able to wear them again soon 🙂
i feel awkward in skinny jeans because i'm so tall! not that i don't like that but they make my legs look freakishly long haha. way to rock them though and accept your "flaws"! send some of that confidence my way to try new styles 🙂
I think you look super cute in the jeans. I really like that store (at least as far as I could tell from the website). Too bad the closest one to me is in another state.
Great look on you, Sarah – you may inspire me to try the skinny jean thang – and I, too, have vague memories of my last black jeans – something about skiing and a cute boy aprés – I think I was also wearing a black sweater and a green silk scarf – hmmm – what was his name? TMI?
You totally rock those jeans!!! Don't doubt for a second that they look fabulous on you! You have the perfect body for them.
I think half the art of wearing skinny jeans is having the confidence to wear them! I do not have that, so you go!
Your dog is absolutely adorable. Love your skinny jeans! They'd be fun to dress up or down. By the way, don't feel bad about your positive self-image…it's inspiring!
you flatter me, sarah.
truth be told, i have trouble finding any kind of pants that fit me here – which is why i stock up when i go back home, where i am (shockingly) above-average in height. i will be sure to check out martin&osa though, those pants look fantastic on you. im jealous.
