the List

August 22, 2010

list day
when josh and i are fortunate enough to get 2 days off in a row at the same time (sadly, this phenomenon of ‘weekend off together’ is the exception rather than the rule), we tend to fall into a typical pattern:

day 1 is totally unproductive and completely wonderful. [yesterday definitely fell into this category. after our race, we basically ate delicious things all day, lounged on the couch catching up on blogs (well, josh played video games), and we were snuggled up together enjoying an ’80s classic (less than zero) by 8 pm. OUR kind of night.]

and

day 2 is a bit of a rush to get everything done that DIDN’T happen on day one.

but with list in hand and a FULL expanse of hours up ahead, i know i can make it happen! or at least most of it.

just another day in foodie paradise
this is going to be brief, because (see above) i’ve got a lot to tackle today!

we met up with jess, andy, and lacey for lunch at the cutest.place.ever:

scratch bakery, a fairly new establishment in downtown durham:

cute on the inside, too!

scratch features local ingredients and rustic baked goods with mouthwatering flavor combos (buttermilk doughnut muffins? fig and balsamic mini-pies? oh yeah . . .). we sampled a few savory items for lunch, including an unpictured (but great!) ricotta pizza.

bean, okra, and mint salad; traditional spanish tortilla (baked egg/potato concoction)
the famous doughnut muffin — chocolate version.
we shared all around, and i just had a taste of the muffin. so please don’t think i am horribly gluttonous for the fact that i headed afterwards to what is STILL my favorite *treat* spot in durham:

(by a long shot)

plain yogurt with figs, honey, and pecans

YEAHHHHH. loyo, you make me smile.

8.21.10

workout: 1.75 miles, including 1 mile race (6:45!! yeah, i’m still excited about that).

board prep: actually, this was the ONE productive thing i managed yesterday. a bunch of prep ?s + the second half of the fluids & lytes chapter.

[atilla: you asked why not post prep questions . . . i’d love to, but i think they are copyrighted material and i could imagine them getting mad about me posting them for the world to see. great idea, though!]

I wanted to go to Scratch SO BADLY! Did you know the owner came to do a pie demo for my Culinary Cultures class? Sadly, it didn&#39t open until after I peaced out of Durham.

I wish my husband would follow a to-do list… and a sub 7 minute mile. I haven&#39t seen those numbers since middle school!
