21 5 dresses

and now for something completely different
tired of hearing me whine about not checking my email? if you’re not, don’t worry, there will be a media cleanse update below! however, today i thought perhaps i would enlist your help with an unrelated matter.

i will be attending a destination wedding this weekend in kentucky (what? don’t knock it ’til you’ve been there!). this is a multi-party event spanning several days, as weddings in josh’s family typically are. unfortunately, due to the slightly important little test (you know, just the pediatrics board certifying exam) i am scheduled to take on monday and josh’s unforgiving work schedule, we will only get to experience a fraction of it, including a swanky cocktail party (not the wedding itself, but the fanciest part of the weekend) on saturday night.

normally, i would have taken this excuse to buy a dress. but my closet these days — well, it’s basically dresses as far as the eye can see, and very little else. i have like 3 tops that i consider acceptable to rotate on the weekends (i’m not kidding about this), but >10 anthro dresses in basically pristine condition. so with the intent of not adding to the imbalance, i have decided to (gasp!) not go shopping, and just wear a dress from my collection.

but which one!? i’m not sure if all of these dresses really qualify as cocktail attire, or whether they are seasonally appropriate, but they are the latest and greatest in my collection. help me choose one for saturday night by voting in the poll just below! you can click any of the photos to enlarge for detail, if necessary.

A) sunwashed dots dress

B) buttoned watercolor dress

C) phosphorescent dress

D) blazing rays dress

E) hollyhock dress

and yes: i will wear whichever one you all select. happy voting!

media cleanse update
yesterday served as proof that an unplugged day does not automatically translate to a productive one. my morning went well (mornings always seem to!), but left to my own devices to work on my research/grant-writing in the afternoon — well, let’s just say things didn’t go so well.

i nearly succumbed to a powerful craving to watch TV (glee!), but finished my book instead (more thoughts on this tomorrow!). thought i had my doubts at first, i actually have been impressed with the number of hours of time that seem to have materialized since i shut the google reader out of my life. like my favorite TV shows, i DO miss it, though!

there is obviously a happy medium between limitless access to blogs/twitter/email all day long and the media-free zone i am currently living in. i hope that this exercise helps me find that balance in the end. alternatively, it will backfire, resulting in a 24-hour sleepless media binge the way crash diets often lead into a disastrous run-ins with a carton of haagen dazs.

guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

workout: 5 miles easy. ahh this run was slow, and yet somehow it felt so good!

taco night: i can’t remember the last time i made hard-shell tacos — in fact, this may have been a first. these were a fun change from the usual whole wheat tortillas that typically accompany any tex-mex creation on our table.

theirs:

i think that plate looks a little barren!
mine:

served with a side of grilled local yellow squash to round things out
i sort of freestyled the recipe, using sweet potatoes in place of regular (they were local, too!), replacing the radishes with bell pepper, and dispensing with the (ugh) cilantro.
greek yogurt was used for sour cream (the full-fat voskos that we used tastes just like sour cream, anyway). i liked our version a lot!

board prep: 10 PREP questions + renal/GU review. just 4 more days and this section will be no more!
