musical traditions
the tradition is only a year old, but i like it — so i’m keeping it. rituals have to start somewhere, after all.
at the end of 2011, i made up a year-end playlist, though i’m not sure i published it here. it’s not necessarily a ‘best of’, because a) i’m certainly no music critic and b) i recognize that not all of the hits on my lists are timeless classics — and you’ll probably agree. but listed below are the songs that i heard over and over in 2012 — either voluntarily, or because they were just everywhere. i think it will be really fun to keep playlists from each year, so that i can always transport myself back to a certain time in my life during a run or on a long drive.
so, without further ado, here’s 2012.
1. “Hold On” — Alabama Shakes, Boys and Girls
2. “Stubborn Love” — The Lumineers, The Lumineers
3. “Half Moon” — Blind Pilot, We Are the Tide
4. “Shake It Out” — Florence and the Machine, Ceremonials
5. “Somebody That I Used to Know” — Gotye, Making Mirrors
6. “Call Me Maybe” — Carly Rae Jepsen, Kiss
7. “The Mother We Share” — CHVRCHES, The Mother We Share (single)
8. “Live and Die” — The Avett Brothers, The Carpenter
9. “The Only Place” — Best Coast, The Only Place
10. “Ghosts” — The Head and the Heart, The Head and the Heart
11. “Video Games” — Lana Del Rey, Video Games (EP)

2012 favorites? recommendations? complaints about now having a cheesy chorus stuck in your head? [#6 perhaps? heh. sorry.]
