We don’t really get much in the way of winter here in Miami Beach. But I still feel like I am crawling out of some hole, waking up from a sickness/stress/work-filled hibernation.
And . . . it is nice and bright out here! I am ready to move beyond a lackluster Feb/March into sunnier territory.
There is a lot of fun up ahead! Lots of travel: Boston, Baltimore, NC, and CA — and that’s just in the next 2 months (whew). These locations include a wedding, a reunion, a work trip, and a 10 year anniversary couples vacay (nope, that one is not in Baltimore!). A’s 4th birthday & party (yay!). A long visit from my parents, who will be staying in a nearby condo for the 2nd year running. So many family events. AND – 14 weekdays away from work* with all of that travel. I really love my job**, but I haven’t had a full week off since August. So I think that April and May will be a really lovely and fun couple of months.
Random things I am into right now:
1) Bullet journaling inspiration. No, I am not changing planners – still LOVE my
Hobonichi Cousin and find it fits my needs really well. But the bullet journaling (or #bujo . . yep) community is just totally up my alley and gives me so many ideas on how to put my planner to work. I don’t know why it took me so long to find it! Search #bujo or #bulletjournal hashtag on Instagram*** to see what I mean (I would post a pic, but don’t want to steal someone else’s planner image without permission).
I think what I love about the #bujo is that it’s pretty (can be beautiful!) but in a super neat way that pushes my buttons, and it’s also super-functional. It’s actually really motivating to check things off in a gorgeous habit tracker, for example. And many people also use their bullet journals to record highlights and memorable things, which I also think is cool (and may add *extra* joy to those experiences).
2) SXSW recaps. On Sound Opinions, on NPR All Songs Considered, and on Pop Culture Happy Hour. It’s fun and refreshing to hear totally new music. The atmosphere sounds amazing. I’d love to go someday.
3) Full fat plain yogurt (with stuff in it). Today’s mix-ins: strawberries, granola, walnuts & honey
* well, 3 of the days are at a work conference, but that’s not the same as in-office time
** happy that I still really mean this on the 7th consecutive day of on-call
*** Instagram and blogs are the only social media I am doing anymore (yep have not felt moved to reactivate Facebook and I don’t yet miss it). I’m on Insta at

it sounds like you have a great spring/summer planned! I hate winter and I am never sad to see it go. (Despite everyone being all about embracing winter I just cannot). Here’s to sunshine, good weather and a season of renewal.
You sound really happy & optimistic, so great! I am SO intrigued by bullet journals. I think I’d love it but really can’t commit to anything new right now. Good for you staying off FB. I keep getting sucked back in and regret it each time. Yum to the yogurt. I love it with berries & raisins & granola. I haven’t had it in a while.
I’m traveling later this week/weekend for work and have an ambitious hope to do a "life plan" type thing (in all my copious downtime between attending lectures, writing a proposal due next week, finishing a million piled up clinic notes, working out…)
Sarah, quick question–what is the meditation podcast you recommended a month or two ago? Think you said it was only 7-10 minutes? Thanks!! Xoxo
Amen to the lackluster Feb/March!
You’ll be in Baltimore? I live in Baltimore, I hope you have a great visit! I know Kath of Kerf has been to Baltimore before, as a visitor she may have some great suggestions for where to eat and places to run. If you’re around a Miss Shirley’s they have great drinks and delicious food…
I’ve also been looking at bullet journaling! Your blog is generally where I first come across ideas, items, and books. I’ve been steady reading since Kerf mentioned you in one of her posts. Now I read your blog and not hers, and your blog has been highly influential in my life. I’ve been wanting to thank you for putting your thoughts out there and introducing to me the work of Laura Vanderkam, and Gretchen Rubin’s podcast. I can’t even reiterate how beneficial their work has been to me! Looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts on the bullet journal!
Woah. I had no idea bullet journaling was a THING but that’s almost exactly how I use planners. I need to investigate more and see what from that system I can integrate into my own!
I also listened to All Songs Considered SXSW podcasts and decided I have to go! It sounds like so much fun!
